Dr. Peter Bennett Shelley, MD

Dr. Shelley has taken care of my son's eyes for more then 20 years now he is the best. I highly recommend Dr. Shelley he is a wonderful doctor.

Dr. Shelley himself is a great ophthalmologist. Unfortunately, his assistant is not. She doesnt pay attention to appointment time or chart flow. Every appointment I had, we waited at least 1/2 hour after our appointment time. This last time was it after waiting 45 minutes, talking with reception, she still took back 2 people that arrived a 1/2 hour after us. This unprofessional behavior has caused me to seek out a new ophthalmologist. I do not recommend this office, especially if your child is special needs.

Dr. Shelly has very poor bedside manner. I took my 2 1/2 year-old son in. He only would give vague answers when I would ask questions about treatment. Was actually pretty rude and Condensending about some of my questions, even cutting me off before I was finished speaking. I felt very rushed. I didn't feel like I got the answers that I needed, or the condition explained completely. I would not be comfortable going back. The staff however we're great! Very friendly.

Terrible staff! Having worked in the medical field for many years, I know the right way to treat people. His staff has not gotten any training in that area. So sad, especially since this is a pediatric eye doctor.

The only thing positive about my experience was the front desk staff and the tech that initially saw us. Dr Shelley himself was the worst dr I have ever come across. I could go on, but in short, we spent over an hour waiting to get absolutely no help. I took my one year old in and Dr Shelley actually acted annoyed from the beginning. I am concerned he has dry eye and when I asked if he had seen that in children and how they diagnose it, his response was "well there is a kid in the waiting room who has a droopy eye, I'm sure his gets dry" as if he had no idea what I could be talking about. It was one thing after another that had my jaw dropped, I eventually got up and walked out. There was so many things wrong with this appointment, especially the way he was with my child. He needs to retire, his heart does not seem into his patients.

Dr. Shelley preformed 3 surgeries on our daughter. 2 for cataract removal and 1 for to correct for eye drift. We saw him for follow ups until she healed and was referred out for specialized help with contact fitting and assessment. We've waiting anywhere from 10 minutes to almost 2 hours. The thing to remember is doctors are in surgery in the morning and must travel from the hospital to the office on the freeway and that can be completely unpredictable, as hard as it is as a patient. He has excellent bed side manner with our daughters. He has lots of great toys, and talks with them a lot about favorite princesses and hobbies while in the room. It's worth the wait. He's an excellent surgeon. There are always risks involved with surgery, ours went very well. He very honest and up front about what he thinks is the best choice based on experience and knowledge. We had anxiety about our daughter disorder when she was first diagnosed and he even paired us up with a mentor. The office… staff has been the same for years and they are super friendly, professional, and skilled with the children. The waiting room has the latest Disney movie on a little t.v and there are lots of magazines and room for kids to run in circles while waiting.

I have been going to Dr Shelley for over 5 years and he is very professional, caring and I like his mannerism. He has removed the cataracts in both of my eyes and I was vey relaxed and comfortable with this procedure. I also like his staff they are very friendly.

Took my daughter for a check up. Got the first appt of the day. Was told to check in at 7:30. The receptionist was not there. We did not get checked in until after our appt time at 7:45. My daughter was happy up until about 8:10. When the doctor finally came in at 8:15 she was too upset. I felt like he was condescending to us as he explained that he could not examine her while she was crying and then when I mentioned she was happy at 7:45 when he was supposed to see her he said,"everyone has to wait. Now people are waiting because your kid is crying". That is when I told him we were done and we walked out. I don't appreciate him blaming my daughter for his inability to be on time. I did give an extra star to the staff because the nurse who first took us back was amazing.

I went to Dr Shelley for a second opinion & he made a comment, why would I do that since the 1st doctor he knew and liked. He was insensitive when I wasn't happy about his recomendation to put blinding drops in my childs working eye to make her bad eye work better & we felt rushed. Although I have great insurance, when I tried to make a follow up apt a couple months afterwards and he wouldn't see my child unless I paid out of pocked for the whole visit & have my insurance reimburse me b/c I owed his office $19 dollars from the last visit. He's all about the $, not the well being of people he cares for.

Dr Shelley was so very unprofessional at my 7y/o son's appointment. We were sent from Children's hospital at the end of the day, because he needed to be seen ASAP. The receptionist was quite rude, the waiting room and exam rooms had ZERO toys. Then we get to the Dr. Dr Shelley made me very uncomfortable when he made it VERY clear that he was upset about being kept after hours. On top of that, I don't believe we got the proper attention and diagnosis because of this Dr's attitude. He gave me vague suggestions at what might be wrong with my son's eyes, and would not go into anything when I asked questions. I would not recommend this Dr to my worst enemy
