Very easy going, explained everything. I was only in for a balloon removal from severe nose bleed so it wasn’t anything complicated but he made sure there was no bleeding and gave me tips on how to prevent them in future.

After 3 1/2 years of visits to another ENT and 2 gastrologists I went to Dr Kookier and was diagnosed with severe dysplasia. He performed a biopsy and recommended radiation. I was shocked at diagnosis and treatment but now am clear of this condition. Moving forward I will follow up for 5 years. I saw Dr. Kooiker on two separate occasions, one for a laryngopharyngoscopy and another for a follow-up. While the procedure itself is typically more uncomfortable than painful, my experience in his office was not a positive one. I found his demeanor to be somewhat aloof, which made it difficult to feel at ease. In fact, that lack of connection and reassurance is what ultimately led me to seek a second opinion. During the procedure, I felt that he was not very gentle when inserting the scope through my nose, and there was little explanation of what was happening as it was taking place. At the time, I assumed the level of discomfort I experienced was just part of the process. However, after recently having the same procedure done by another practitioner, I realized that it doesn’t have to feel that way. The second provider was gentle, explained each step, and made sure I was comfortable throughout. That experience was noticeably smoother and far less uncomfortable. Based on my… experience, I believe bedside manner and communication make a big difference with this type of procedure, and unfortunately, I did not feel comfortable or well-supported during my visits.

Dr. Kooiker is a great doctor. He is thorough in the examination; explaining the procedure as he examines! He did my nose and sinus years ago with great results. I would recommend him to anyone who needs help with their nose and sinus problems.
