Dr. Richard Alan Chefetz, MD

I spent a long time wondering whether I should post this review or not, but decided to do so, so other people will not have the same experience. Even though it's been a long time since I last saw him, I still feel traumatized by his narcissistic gaslighting and manipulation. By going to this doctor, I felt like my memories of being emotionally abused by a parent came back to me. He seemed to enjoy patronizing me and one time spent a good portion of the session talking about himself. He might have had good days in his career, but I don't believe he should be practicing.

He damaged me during a very sensitive time in my life. I was having a breakdown and he played games with my mind for his enjoyment. He tried to illicit reactions from me, being kind one session and evil the next. He tried to push my trauma triggers and I was confused and out of it. He was paid for no help, only harm. The worst therapist ever, my other therapists couldn't even believe what I was telling them. He is all about money, not about help. He harms others for his enjoyment..sadistic in nature.

Creepy

Chefetz supported the bullying and harassment of a therapist with DID on his list serve. He is generally disrespectful to survivors who do not agree with his views. Strange behavior from someone who makes his living off survivors with DID.

Recommend avoid

My husband wanted me to see a psychiatrist after I was assaulted and experiencing PTSD. Dr. Chefetz diagnosed me as a multiple personality after a few minutes of conversation. When your only tool is a hammer all you see are nails. He has one tool which is diagnosing everyone he sees as multiple personality. He also appeared forgetful and out of it.

I am being totally honest when I say this psychiatrist needs help. He talks about himself almost all of the session but charges me hundreds of dollars to listen to him talk his mother and how horrible she was to gim. I should be charging him to help his fragile mental state. Recommend avoiding this doctor!

Horrible and very inappropriate.

This therapist is impaired. He talks only about himself in sessions. He forgets sessions. He switches between angry and tearful. As a therapist myself, I can confidently say this guy needs help.

My wife urged me to see a psychiatrist for my depression after my father died. 30 mins in to a phone interview and Dr. Chefetz diagnosed me with multiple personalities. That's all he sees in anyone. Save your money! Stay away!
