Dr. Richard Evan Gellman, MD

In 2015 (it’s 2020 now) I jumped off a pdx overpass into heavy, flowing traffic. I’ve never been a solid decision maker, from the time I was a kid. A number of doctors treated me, these reviews relate to those who worked on my feet/ ankles. Dr Gellman at Summit Orthopedics (N Pdx) fixed my broken feet first. Gellman is an decent guy - a little intimidating, not so personable, and very good - he worked hard to repair the damage I caused but finally referred me to his Summit Orthopedic partner, Dr Beaman. Before seeing Beaman though I instead went to see Dr.Galle at Westside Foot and Ankle in Tigard. Dr. Galle and his office I would recommend to no one. The surgery he performed on my left foot was useless. He removed a little bone from my little toe in an attempt to fix a big problem. And he made it seem like it was my only hope. When he recommended amputating my toe, I stopped listening and met w Dr Beaman. I liked Beaman immediately. He’s funny, in a comforting way, and… you get the sense he’s really good at what he does. When he said, “I think I can fix this,” I believed him. My most recent foot surgery was performed by Beaman and the work was artistry. If you break anything that he can fix, see him. Even if you have to travel a few hours. This guy is that good. I now walk with no pain. Finally, I can’t say enough about Dr Gellman’s and Beaman’s medical assistant/ office manager, Ala. She manages the office efficiently and knows exactly what’s going on. Dr. Galle‘s office staff is just like Galle. One of them even left me an aggressive voicemail when I was late paying a bill. I owed $75, $50 of which was for items he insisted I purchase even though the hospital provided them for free : ( Go see Gellman or Beaman certainly. Galle, I’d avoid.

In 2011 I suffered severe fractures in both feet and a rib/fib compound feature in my left leg, Dr Gellman humpty dumptied me back together, I am writing this because so many people on here have stated he is all about the money. I had no insurance and after breaking my legs no job, I wasn’t even originally assigned as his patient, but when he heard a single mother of 5 in my condition he asked to take my care over. He tells you truth you may not want to hear but need to. I wish I still lived in Oregon so he could handle the fusion surgery I need.

I've seen many reviews on here about the lack of bedside manner. He probably is not the person I'd pick to have a beer with or hold my hand when I was scared, but he is a brilliant surgeon. The skill with which he repaired my fractured femur was amazing. Thank you Dr Gellman

After a terrible motorcyle accident I found myself in emergency surgery at Emanuel Hospital. I was very fortunate because Dr. Richard Gellman was the orthopedic trauma surgeon who was there to put me back together after double compound fractures of my lower left leg. His follow up and care was exceptional. Four years later when I decided to have the two plates and more than a dozen screws removed, the orthopedic surgeon in California was amazed at the skills of Dr. Gellman. One of the best orthopedic trauma surgeons in Portland.

Dr Gellman has some rough bedside manners, but his sincerity and experience is not lacking. After three surgeries I was very pleased with the results. I would use Dr Gellman in any further orthopedic surgeries. His staff is more than competent.

Impersonal. Poor follow-up.

Dr. Gelman did an incredible job putting my heels back together after I shattered both of them in a free style rock climbing accident. Not many doctors could have fixed my feet they were so badly broken. Today a little over a year later I am walking, jogging, even water skiing, as well as playing racket ball, activities which would not have been possible without Dr. Gelman's care and professionalism puzzling both of my shattered heels back together.

Seemed out of his league with my fracture. Overhead him in hall yelling at his staff for booking "NO pay dirtbags". Seems more interested in money than patients.

Spent less than 10 minutes with me for a pre-op visit, didn't do an exam, or take a history, couldn't be bothered with my questions, was insulting and generally disinterested. I ended-up cancelling my surgery with him because I didn't trust him to touch me.

I get in and out in a very reasonable time frame. My broken leg will be totally healed using the frame system. I couldn't be more thrilled!
