Loved Dr Gestring He’s the Best

My spouse had controlled depression for many years with Sertraline but his high pressure job resulted in a minor breakdown. We started seeing Dr. Gestring after. When we started seeing him, he changed my spouses current medications to a "newer" medication that supposedly was more effective and had fewer side effects. Over then next few years, my spouse's condition continued to degrade and Richard did NOTHING to adjust to the declining condition. Rather than adjust medications, introduce additional therapy, or alter the treatment, Richard would simply regurgitate the same garbage; that my spouse simply needed a "purpose" as he was now retired. I would question his assessment as my spouse is hyperactive and has ALWAYS taken interest in a variety of activities. He has always been compulsive about attending to the yard and the landscaping, he is an accomplished pianist, creates amazing stained glass, had dabbled in painting, not to mention his enjoyment of long walks and cycling. As time… progressed, interest in participating in any of these activities disappeared. I proactively researched the situation and would occasionally go with my spouse to his session and push Richard to do make some adjustment to the current treatment. My desire was for Dr. Gestring to generate a treatment PLAN. I wanted us to formulate an approach to address the my spouses declining condition. After pushing for a plan, he would finally verbalize an approach but never follow through. I thought it strange that after he would verbalize a very non-specific plan he would never write or document anything making me wonder if he would remember anything he was stating. Ultimately, he didn't as he NEVER followed through an any recommendations for treatment. After seeing this "doctor" for nearly 4 years, my spouse was in deep clinical depression. He had NO interest in any of his normal activities. He was sleeping as much as 20 hours per day. He had no appetite and wasn't eating. My spouse was reaching a point were he may need to be hospitalized. The absence of thoughts of self harm was the ONLY reason that I was not forced to hospitalize my beloved spouse. It was at this point that I decided that I MUST find a competent doctor to treat my spouse. I received a recommendation for a Psychiatrist that is highly acclaimed in his field. While I was required to wait a couple months for my first appointment with the new doctor, we decided to discontinue seeing Dr. Gestring since he was obviously of no value to my spouse. This was the BEST decision we made in 4 years of seeing Dr. Gestring. The short story and happy ending is that after only a couple months of seeing the new doctor, my spouse has made nearly a complete recovery. He feels better than he has since prior to starting to see Dr. Gestring! The bottom line is that this man may have a medical degree but he should NOT be practicing. He does NOT understand his patients. He has NO comprehension of how or when his prescribed medications are negatively impacting his patients. He fails to observe that his patients are not improving but rather continually declining. This man is imposing harm on his patients and demonstrates neglect by failing to perceive declining mental health. Do yourself a service and avoid seeing this individual. He is inept and is incapable of treating basic clinical depression. We wasted years allowing Dr. Gestring the opportunity to treat my spouse. Do NOT make this same mistake. Life is too precious to waste on an inept psychiatrist.

Simply put, excellent. excellent doc, excellent staff.
