Dr. Robert Merrill Cope, MD

If I could give zero stars, I would. I made an appt. for a vasectomy, waited nearly a month, went through a consultation, paid a deposit fee and the fee for the surgery, and finally when Dr. Cope came in to do the surgery, judged me based on my age (twenty five) and the fact that I currently did not have children. He then refused to perform the surgery based on these grounds. Now, if we are to say that those grounds to justify denying an elective surgery that I have decided to have after many years of deep thought on the matter are somehow justified (they are not), even still, I should not have gotten all the way to that point before being notified. I have been waiting on getting this surgery done to relocate to a new city, find a new job, and to have that disruption thrown in my face simply because the doctor did not feel right in performing such a procedure on someone young is insulting. My not having children at this point in my life should not be a disqualifying factor in the… decisions I wish to make. People such as Cope need to understand that not everyone on this planet wants to have children. The decision to have a vasectomy should not entail "how many kids have I had so far and when should I stop?" If these things dissuade Cope from performing procedures like this, there NEEDS to be a pre-requisite form of some sort where this information is requested of the patient upon making the appointment, and provided to him and his staff, so that the decision can be made then and there. There is absolutely no reason why patients must be forced to wait extensive amounts of time after scheduling a procedure, only to get to the very point of having it done and being told "no" based on personal, subjectively moral assessments. My experience with St. George Urology and Dr. Cope has been a deeply upsetting one.

Recommendation. Think twice about. Dr Cope Urology. Made an appointment for my 6 year old son 3 weeks ago. Verified insurance was accepted He has back flow in his right kidney and is retaining urine. Collecting bacteria and he is constantly sick and in pain if not treated. He needs surgery. The office calls me today 4 day before his appointment to tell me they no longer take his insurance and I will have to cash pay 150$ to see the doctor. It is now to late and my son has waited long enough to schedule another 3 weeks with another urologist. Because they could not do their duegilagence and I'm not prepared for 150$ when my copays is $30. They did not even offer payment plan. So upsetting with no recourse for them making my son wait in pain longer. Horrible customer care

Had Rezum procedure by Dr. Robert Cope - the only TWO MINUTES I ever saw him (EVERY visit I saw his PA). I was conscious at the time, but with multiple medications. This was without doubt the most painful two or three minutes of MY ENTIRE LIFE. Nothing else comes close. The worst thing was, after initial improvement, about four months later ALL my symptoms came back. Due to my extraordinarily poor experience with Dr. Cope, I chose to go to a completely different practice (Dr. Thomas Brinton). I saw Dr. Brinton for every appointment. Dr. Brinton performed PVP surgery under general anesthesia. Now, four months later, all my BPH problems are gone. I DO NOT recommend Dr. Cope, as I felt like a package being worked on. It was outrageous that I never saw him to talk to, good as his PA is. Dr. Brinton, on the other hand, is personable, young, enthusiastic, and gave me tremendous confidence that his procedure would do the trick.

Dr. Cope Helped me with a Hernia. Financial issues were tough at the time but we were able to work it out so I could get the help I needed in a timely manor. He was very concerned and kind during the whole process.

He gave my cancer diagnosis in a blunt message to my wife, at noon, by phone, on Friday before he left for the weekend (he had received the results on Tuesday). He also had my direct number. I found a more compassionate surgeon.

A very personal doctor who explained everything in a way we could understand, then followed up with quality work.

Good Doctor. Good Dx and quick, effective treatment. Good bedside manner dealing with very serious cancer situation. Thorough and accurate. Great results. Just difficult to get in to see.

I have prostate cancer and they didn't know about some advanced cancer treatments. Definitely wouldn't recommend
