Dr. Robert Joseph Sosa, MD

Robert Sosa is a caring and responsive practitioner. I find him to be a good listener. He won't hesitate to write a referral if needed. I've been happy with the care received.

I saw Dr. Sosa when my primary care doctor was out of town. Literally the first thing he said to me was "Make it quick, we only have a few minutes" after being 15 minutes late to the scheduled appointment we had (online appointment due to covid). Noting I had the latest appointment of the day I suppose he was more concerned about getting home to watch the news? As for his care, I had to pry for him to put in a reference to a pain clinic that was already suggested by my primary care physician before she went out of town and when expressing that my pain meds seem to be less effective and I'm experiencing an increased amount of pain all I got was a blank stare saying "I already put in a referral to pain management". I'm not sure if I wanted an increase in my pain med dosage as it messes with me cognitively but he bloody could have at least suggested it or asked any follow up questions on it. I know he's not my primary care doc, but despite that he made me feel that he had better things… to do. If I wasn't able to get the reference to a specialist it would have been as much of a waste of my time as he thought it was a waste of his.

Having read the earlier review from this year I feel I must comment. Dr. Sosa has been my doctor for over 15 years, I followed him from Oakland to Walnut creek. I have had several serious health problem during this time including major back surgery, hand surgery, serious infections, among others. He has taken good care of me and showed no resistance to referring me to specialists when needed or took care of the problem himself when he possessed the skill rather than cause me to wait for a specialist, for example giving targeted cortisone joint injections. He identified a skin cancer that I had not noticed myself. He always has given me whatever time was needed to take care of my situation, despite the time pressure placed on physicians by Kaiser. He has always promptly responded to all my communications.

I don't know if this guy had a problem with me personally or what but his conduct towards me as a patient was rather unprofessional. He was irritable, brash, and downright rude in many instances. I only saw him a handful times since I only saw him when absolutely necessary but looking back (this was over 10 years ago) I have to say his behavior was highly inappropriate and if I were you I would avoid having him as your doctor if possible. Not a nice guy. Not very helpful either. (Also he missed a major condition that was caught a couple years later and required major surgery which most likely would not have been necessary if Sosa had been vigilant and done his job properly.)
