Dr. Roberto Rende, MD

I went in with a referral from my optometrist for a retinal hole. He said my eye was fine and he did not see anything. When I asked him why a machine would see a hole but he wouldn't he became defensive and it escalated to him yelling at me "to grow up". I was able to get a referral from the office manager and the retina specialist found the tear and had to do lasik surgery that same day to prevent a detachment. This doctor was fired from the Markan and Wolston practice due to this misdiagnosis and for failing to provide appropriate patient care.

I saw Dr. Rende in Irvine at OC Eye Assoc. He started by locking the door and turning off the light without telling me what was going on. Eyes are sensitive when dilated and I was stressed. His manner was brusque and unprofessional. He didn't explain what he was doing and answered rudely "that he was the professional and did this all the time" when I asked what the light was for shining brightly in my sensitive eyes. I am treated so much more professionally by my optometrist and I was seeking more information by visiting an ophthalmologist - I learned nothing and was felt like a "bother" to this doctor instead of a concerned patient. I realize anyone could have a bad day, but I had to pay to learn nothing and be treated rudely.

Excellent doctor who thinks outside the box. My left eye had pressure 4x the normal range. Very unusual, especially for my age. He acted quickly and confidently, and saved the vision in my left eye. I will be forever grateful. Thank you!

I thought he did a clear job of explaining what my eye needed.

He was very rude and acted as if treating patients was a chore. I could have googled my symptoms and self-treated and saved myself the hassle of his behavior; however, I wanted to ensure I didn't have any injury to my eye and wanted a proper diagnosis. I will not be returning and would not recommend him to anyone. He needs to brush up on civility, diplomacy, patience and his bedside manner. I believe this review would have no impact on changing his behavior.
