Dr. Ronald Leroy Young, MD

I had cervical spinal fusion surgery in 2012, plates, screws, plates, the whole 9 yards. I was pretty immobile for 2 years prior to the surgery, and in a lot of pain with no feeling in my hands and feet. Dr. Young was just wonderful from start to finish with his preparation of my procedure, how he explained what he would be doing, and the entire staff sat around a huge conference room to explain on a television monitor my entire process a few days before the surgery. I was literaly excited to have the process done. They told me that it was the type of surgery that the pain relief would be imediate. BOY WERE RIGHT, From the minute I woke up from surgery, all the pain and numbness was gone!!! Dr. Young is a great surgeon and he was so concerned and compasion with my overall process and recovery was phenominal!!! He will be my surgeon if I ever have to have the other side of my neck done. I had fusion on the left side, vertebrae 3 thru 7, and he said I would most likely have to… have the right side done in 5 years... it's been 7, and the work he did has changed my life!!! I would go days with my head literally being down on my shoulder and no feeling in my hands or feet. 6 weeks after my surgery in 2012, I was back out riding my motorcycle, was playing golf, and could play my guitar without my hands falling asleep. Dr young is one of the best neurology doctors we have dealt with, and took awesome care of our little boy Parker while under his care!!!

The first times he saw my 12 y/o son for Hydrocephalus was good, however once he performed the surgery, everything went downhill fast. He refused to accept that his surgery was failing and kept sending us to a neurologist and other doctors instead of seeing him. The first time we see a different Neurosurgeon, he is back in surgery a week later.

over the course of 4 days I have called this office 3 times to schedule an appointment .. I have been directed to leave two messages (during office hours) just to try to schedule a follow up appt. No one has yet to call back...I talked to a live person finally the 3rd time calling them. I was then told the appointment scheduler was on vacation right now and would call me back to set up an appt when she returned.??? Thought that was extremely weird for a doctors office. Also doctor spent about 4 minutes in the room with me at my new patient appointment for brain tumor. He seemed very rushed.

Most memorable moment was when his staff said he wouldn't see us with out discs of a ct scan, which I thought was stupid because we were being seen to see if our daughter needed to be exposed to the radiation or not. Staff was snippy, and rude. Then the DR. came in the room for two minutes and glanced at our daughter said, " I am going to order a CT Scan" and then left the room, turned around and said you guys can go back to the waiting room. Never seen him again.

Dr. Young helped save my life. He is a very compassionate and caring doctor. I am in healthcare myself for over 10 years. After my neurosurgery to remove my brain tumor, he explained everything to my family and friends there waiting to see me. When they were finally able to come back and see me..my huge smile and me asking what his presumptive diagnosis was tickled everyone. My parents still get a kick out of the fact that Dr. Young was so excited to see me making sense and talking so well..he even did a little dance to celebrate. He took his own personal time to call me at home on a Friday evening on a holiday weekend to give me my pathology report himself that I had been waiting on for weeks. The only reason I was waiting weeks was because they were double and triple checking my brain tumor chunk that was sent to them because honestly sometimes it can be difficult in differentiating between closely related diagnoses. It was a better diagnosis than we had expected. That was 3 years… ago. I am healthy and doing fabulous! Thank you Dr. Young and all his staff!

Kristen is horrible to deal with. My son has been diagnosed with an Angioma in his brain and two bad concussions and she acted like it was no big deal. The doctor also was not at all informative about the matter. They then cancelled my appt without my knowledge and I was almost to there office. I called back to ask questions and find out why they canceled and Kristen starts answering the questions without even looking at his chart. She tells my son he can go back and playing football. The doctor last year had specifically said he could no longer pay ever again and his new doctor said he can't. So I asked to speak to the doctor and she would not let me. The doctor needs to find an assistant that has more understanding and is more on top of taking care of his clients since he is not doing it. I am happy with my sons new doctor. She took time to explain everything. This office is horrible.

My nineteen-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumor (pilocytc astrocytoma)and was referred to Dr. Young because of his experience in pediatric brain tumors. His compassionate nature was evident when he, personally, braided her hair to eliminate the necessity of shaving it off (his nurse explained that he understands the importance of hair to a teenager). He also made an effort to find common ground with my daughter by discussing music...a tactic that put her at ease, and soothed her anxiety prior to the hospitalization. In surgery, he placed her incision between braids, directly in the part, at the bottom of her skull, to ensure it would not be noticeable. But my daughter has no hang-ups about the scar, and refers to it as her survival scar, of which she is proud. Dr. Young's surgical expertise enabled my daughter to emerge from the surgery without a single complication or repercussion. His experience and knowledge aided the pathologists in differentiating her tumor from an… oligodendroglioma. This was critical information with respect to treatment. He helped her to reclaim her confidence quickly, by condoning her desire to run a marathon. The training program was very healthy for her mentally and physically. Before six months had passed following the surgery, she completed the marathon. She completed follow-up care within five years, and his staff was polite, considerate, and caring, all throughout the process. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Young. He saved my daughter's life.

he & his asst. kristen were horrible!!!! 3 shunt surgeries, the same kind x3 , with no MRI, thats going in blind! I then developed a huge hematoma in my belly , which has happen twice before to me and it was worse and needed another surgery, but this time ronald young jr. wouldn't do an x-ray. he got in my face 3x's.which i was flat on my back because of low pressure in head, and he then fired me as his patient, ThankGod!! I then went to N.Y. to a real dr. and I am looking at another surgery to fix what ronald young 2 did to me!
