Dr. Savvas John Saragas, MD

Dr Saragas is The Man. He is kind, gentle, and knowledgeable. I have never had a doctor take so much time and explain everything so thoroughly. I live in Maine, but will be traveling down to see him for my eye exams.

I have been seeing Dr. Saragas for 17 years now. He is very friendly and professional, and he really knows his stuff! I used to wear glasses, and he helped me pick out a great pair for me. I got lots of compliments on them . A little while later, I was able to get LASIK eye surgery done, and chose Dr. Saragas to do it. I still don't need glasses, even though it's been 16 years since I had it done, and I am now 54. It was certainly a great investment. I recommended Dr. Saragas to a friend who also got LASIK, and after the operation he had better than 20/20 vision!

I called this morning for an emergency appointment and when I told her I would fax over a referral, she insisted that I didn't need one, specifically ...

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I have never been more furious. The receptionist - Mary is her name - was rude, completely incompetent, and downright insulting. I called this morning for an emergency appointment and when I told her I would fax over a referral, she insisted that I didn't need one, specifically told me NOT to call my insurance, and insisted that she would take care of it herself, all the while being incredibly rude and repeatedly cutting me off. She asked me to fax over a copy of my insurance card, front and back, and she would deal with my insurance directly. After doing so, I later called to make sure that I was all set for my appointment, and she said yes, everything is fine. I went in for the apt., asked if she had needed a referral in the end, and she told me that she didn't even call the insurance (which was the reason I went through the hassle of copying and faxing over my insurance card earlier that day). I filled out the forms, but when I got to the page saying that if… my insurance denied the payment, I agreed to pay in full, I decided to call my insurance myself to confirm that I didn't need a referral. I called, and as I was on the phone, Mary was saying "get off the phone! It's a waste of your time! I'm telling you, you don't need a referral!" Besides the fact that I am SHOCKED that she would speak that rudely to a CUSTOMER (did I mention that I was ON THE PHONE as she was yelling this in my ear?!), my insurance then came back to me and said that I DID in fact need a referral!!! I hung up, told Mary this, and she tells me that I should have done it earlier because now she can't get me in until 8pm. I politely point out that she had said that SHE was going to call my insurance and specifically told me NOT to call, and she said "Well I just didn't think your insurance required a referral." And here's the kicker: to add insult to injury, she then started going off about how she "didn't even want to touch anything I had just touched because it looked like I had an eye infection." I told her THAT WAS THE REASON THAT I WAS THERE TO SEE THE DOCTOR. I told her to forget it and walked out. I am shocked, furious, and outraged at this treatment. This woman wasted my entire day, insulted me, was rude all the while, and now i won't be able to see a doctor for what was supposed to be an emergency apt. until tomorrow. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

I went to Dr. Saragas, because my neighbor raved about him and I was not dissapointed. I have never had such a thorough exam. He anwered all my questions, calmed my anxiety about my glaucoma and pretested my prescription fr eyeglasses to make sure I would be happy. I have never seen as clearly with my new glasses. He cares. He genuinely cares. I am so happy he is my doctor, I am almost afraid to share him.

He is an excellent doctor. Extremely thorugh. He gave me the best eye exam I ever had. I have never been to a doctor that has taken so much time, and interest in solving all of my eye problems. My previous doctors did not even come close. I thought I had an allergy and I was taking medication prescribed by my primary doctor for 2 months. It was not getting better. Dr. Saragas correctly diagnosed my problem not as an allergy but an eyelid problem, he treated me and wow! no more allergy! I can now wear contacts again and my vision, thanks to Dr. Saragas, is betterthan 20 20. Dr. Saragas is the Best!

Great doctor ! He is what all doctors should be. He knows his stuff and more. I had a problem with my cholesterol and knees, my family doc kept trying pills, I spoke to Dr. Saragas thanks to his advice I am now off my family docs meds.He is very gentle and has a great bedside manner and a sense of humour. When I was there I heard the secretary call the names of 2 doctors who waiting in the reception area to see him. I like it that he is very thorough. I feel that I am getting the best. I brought in my parents, my daughter and my husband.
