I had an amazing experience with Dr. McCance! I needed spinal fusion surgery in my lumbar vertebrae, I could barely walk. Within 1 week of surgery I was already walking better than before, and with minimal pain. Best spinal surgeon in the world! Thank you Dr. McCance!

Dr. McCance did my spinal fusion (L5/S1) and I was very happy with both him and his team. I am 35 and very active so was nervous about getting this done, but am now 6 months out from surgery and have very few limitations and have been exercising and working out with now pain. I was very appreciative of Dr McCance approach, he is very patient and takes time to answer all your questions. With some surgeons you don't feel heard and they want to just rsuh you through appointments and tell you what to do. Not so with Dr McCance, I have always felt heard and like it was my decision to move forward with the surgery. Would highly recommend him.

My son Roshane Witter was recommended by my sister to see Dr. McCance after a MRI scan showed issues relating to his spine. He met with Dr. McCance who after viewing the scan advised that he will need surgery. My son is usually afraid to anything and all things medically related and this was the first time in his 32 years that he would have to do anything where he had to be sedated, much less surgery. I applaud Dr. McCance and by extension his team, as the young lady; don’t recall her name, but she made the relevant booking, sorted out his insurance and advised what steps needed to be taken prior to surgery. On the day of the surgery both myself, his dad and most of all my son we were very nervous and anxious about the surgery. However from the prep staff to the post op staff were wonderful. I appreciate and respect Dr. McCance wholeheartedly. After the surgery he found me and came and explained what had taken place during surgery, additional findings during the surgery and what… he had done to correct the issues. He explained in no rush but took his time to ensure that I understood. He is a very kind, gentle and supportive doctor who not only put the patient fears at ease but also the supportive family. I truly recommend Dr. McCance to anyone who wants service from not only a highly professional doctor/surgeon but in addition, service from a surgeon whom possesses great interpersonal relation skills and think about the patient. He is not one to give a diagnosis or treatment nor recommend surgery if same is not needed. He is not about the money but about the best and right treatment needed based on your medical situation. Thank you Dr. McCance. My son is doing great. He is back in the gym and I am truly grateful for your expertise, care and follow up that you provided.

Dr. McCance operated on me a few weeks ago, and I feel amazing! I needed a microdiscectomy because I had a herniated disc. After the operation, I was able to walk again within two days. I am still in the recovery phase, but I look forward to bending, twisting, and lifting in a few months! I highly recommend Sean McCance!

AMAZING! I did roughly a decade of back breaking delivery, moving jobs in my 20s. The whole time lifting with everything except my knees, unwittingly putting intense pressure on my lower back. Last year all of a sudden I had pain shooting down my left leg causing discomfort and pain while walking, standing still or sitting down. XRAYs and MRI showed a severely herniated L5-S1 disc causing compression on the sciatic nerve -- never heard of Sciatica until then. I was recommended to see Dr. McCance and oh man, I'm glad I did. Of course, I did my research on him and was thoroughly impressed, so much so I didn't even consider a second opinion. I have ZERO regrets! Staff was friendly, answered all my questions and the process was painless. Dr. McCance performed the microdiscectomy and within the week after surgery, I was pain free. Now 2 months later, my walk is back to normal and no pain! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. McCance and his team. Best outcome I could've hoped for and I got it!

Dr McCance is the definition of a truly great surgeon. I was referred to him by a friend after going through a failed L4-L5 spinal fusion. That surgery was a nightmare and left me with more pain than I had before. I met with Dr. McCance, he went over an MRI and the first surgeons notes, then ordered a series of tests. It was discovered that the surgery was a total failure, there was no fusion, screws were grossly loose. Dr McCance is extremely thorough, competent and concerned for his patients. What a change from my first surgery. Nine months after the initial surgery he performed a revision fusion L3-S1. I am now 6 months post surgery and doing so much better. The pain after surgery was minimal, I am back to walking and enjoying life at 84 and am returning to the gym, in easy stages all thanks to the good doctor and his amazing staff. His assistant Lyndsey is a superstar. Thank you all so much. I am so grateful for the care and concern I was shown.

Dr McCance is a caring compassionate Highly skilled physician. He is very thorough in explaining your medical condition and how to correct it. I suffered over 3 months in pain. I am 6 weeks post op and pain free. His PA Lindsey is very friendly and very helpful. His entire staff is amazing. Best spine surgeon highly recommend him.

Hello! I was referred by my pain management physician to Dr. McCance as my problem was a bit unique. I previously had fusions in the lumbar and c-spine with a different surgeon and My pain continued as those fusions didn’t “fuse”. I waited a year to let things settle, but I knew something was “off”. My pain mgmt MD recommended I meet with Dr. McCance and positive things started to happen. Dr. McCance was able to identify the corrective needs and was very positive that he could help me. For me, it wasn’t solely about the elimination of pain, but an improved quality of life and a bright hope for my future. Dr. McCance spoke with my pain mgmt MD to discuss my history, concerns and anxiety….not sure any other surgeons would be so considerate. Also, when I went for imaging or cardiac pre-surgical testing, people would share very positive feedback about his work, (very reassuring). He has an extremely even temperament and didn’t become defensive or dismissive when I nervously asked… questions and babbled on end. Dr. McCance is very patient and listens to your concerns and questions with genuine interest and respect. You can see that his staff, whether in the office or as part of the surgical team, really care. I recommend that if you need initial fusion surgery, or, if you have fusions that need correction, to please make the time to see him. I have had two major surgeries with him and he and the team genuinely care about their patients. Thank you for reading. Under the care of a different physician, I had a non-invasive lumbar laminectomy at a prominent spine center at a prominent hospital in NYC in 2021 and that surgery completely failed after 8 days. I had been in excruciating pain for the prior 2.5 years and now that pain was worse, the kind you cannot live with. I was at a complete loss as to what to do. Thankfully, I was referred to Dr. Sean McCance. Within a couple weeks after the failed surgery, I met him. The staff worked closely with me to schedule all the pre-surgical work-ups I needed – he has a very supportive team at pre- and post-surgery appointments. Seven weeks after the failed surgery, Dr. McCance executed revision surgery and I walked out of the same hospital but I felt like a miracle had taken place: I was pain-free and I remain so 53 weeks later. If you are reading this review, and if you had surgery that did not work out, you owe it to yourself to consult with this extremely skilled and experienced physician who is… adept at both listening and responding. Do not wait. I’m only half-joking when I tell colleagues and friends that I’ve renamed this physician Saint McCance.

I chose to wait a few months before I wrote this review, to see if any complications would arise, to be sure I was doing a fair and accurate review. Well I have waited 6 months and here it is. Working as an FDNY firefighter , I was injured as reclaimed timber shelving landed on top of me while performing duties. Immediate pain turned much worse as the days went on, resulting in the feeling of electric shocks running down my arm, along with sharp pains each time I turned my head. Long story short, I had a herniated disc pressing against my spinal canal. Dr. McCance and his office explain to me my different options, and I chose to have my cervical spine fused. From the moment I woke up, the shockwaves on my arm were gone. Within a few weeks I was up and about, and now I have no pain due to the injury. Recovery was so well, that I play golf on a regular basis now (at least 3X per week). Dr. McCance was very happy to see how quickly I was coming along, and still took the time each and… every post operation visit to go over all my concerns. I would strongly recommend him, even if you think you have a treatment plan, as an option or even for his experienced opinion. See you on the course……??
