Dr. Seth Adam Cheatham, MD

I had a bad experience with knee surgery several years ago and now I was having problems with my other knee. I did not have an orthopedic physician in Richmond but the only one I could find that could see me right away was Dr Cheatham at VCU Sports Clinic. However, some of Dr Cheatham's reviews were not so good so I was a bit leery on my first visit. Also, the pain in my knee was bad and I needed to know what was wrong, so I went to him anyway. I am so glad I did! Reviews are not always honest. After a complete set of x-rays, Dr Cheatham spent a lot of time with me making sure he understood my problem and explaining all the options available to me. Surgery was not needed, and he told me so up front. He prescribed rest for my knee and a topical medication (because I can’t take ibuprofen) that is working just fine. Trust Dr Cheatham! He is a very, very good doctor.

This guy doesn't care about patients, he cares about money. I took half a day off or work to see Dr. Cheatham because they told me plan for 2 hours. I was taken back about 10 minutes after my appointment time, which is fine. My issue was a reoccurring, running-related stress fracture in my leg. Right out of the gate they said I had to get an x-Ray. I refused because I've had x-Rays three times in the past and it's never shown up. The office visit was $300 and I wanted to speak to the doctor before spending more money of extra procedures. Apparently taking care of patients isn't this guy's priority. I asked the nurse how much an x-Ray would cost and after checking with billing she informed me it was $464. This doctor wanted to secure $764 in his pocket before even setting foot in the exam room. Needless to say, I refused to move forward with this bogus x-Ray and left. I took a half day off from my work to see this doctor who came recommended and he couldn't even give me 5 minutes. Don't… go see Dr. Seth Cheatham.

He was dismissive of a painful infection that turned out to be serious. Became annoyed when I insisted he treat a raging infection more aggressive and he stopped treating my pain too early given the complications. I almost lost my foot. Luckily I begged another doctor to treat me and after two more operations and IV antibiotics I saved my foot but have a terrible scar. A simple fracture repair kept me almost homebound by needing to have an elevated foot in bed to stand the pain and swelling for almost year before I found another doctor.

Dr Cheatham performed acl surgery using hamstring's graft. I am only 14 days post surgery and feel great. Could not ask for better patient care.
