Dr. Shamima Khan

I went to see Dr. Shamima Khan for depression and anxiety. I chose her because she was the only psychiatrist with openings, which I soon understood why. She was very condescending and would outright tell me I didn't experience the syptoms I claimed to experience despite the fact that that had been our first encounter. One time she told me that she would rather speak to my mother about my symptoms than me although I had explicitly told her that involving others was not an option and the fact that I am a legal adult. She offered flimsy advice and had trouble recalling psychiatric terms during my visit. Before each visit, they would take my vitals. I am not sure what the credentials of the lady that was taking them were but in the time she was supposed to take my blood pressure she told me she had no idea how to use the machine and even went as far as proving it to me by measuring my BP as if she were presenting a 'what not to do' situation. Additionally, I don't know if this is… customary in psychiatry but during my appointment there were two employees sitting in with me. Finally, Dr. Shamima Khan upped my dosage of medication too early (something I have gotten confirmed by another psychiatrist) causing me side effects that I still suffer from two months later. If you have the time to wait it out I reccomend finding a more reputable doctor.

Dr. Khan treated my husband for PTSD. She started off ok, spent time diagnosing him, but refused to treat his anxiety with anything other than an antihistamine, which made no sense to us. She took over a week to return 3 phone calls when he was having a major reaction to the drugs she put him on, by that time he had already been to the ER twice and had stopped taking his meds completely.
