Dr. Shari Leigh Senzon, MD

Dr. Shari Senzon from Mainline OB/GYN - Paoli office violated hospital protocol and forgot to collect our baby’s umbilical cord tissue. Senzon was extremely careless and impatient. I reminded her to collect both cord blood and tissue many times before labor began. She never bothered to look at the collection kit. Right after the delivery, the clamp fell off the cord, and blood shot out. While trying to put the clamp back, Senzon cut her finger. It took her a while to put the clamp back, treat her wound, and clean up the large pool of blood. Then she collected the cord blood and tissue (or so we thought). Senzon violated hospital protocol. She simply threw the cord blood collection bag and the tubes containing maternal blood onto the cart without labeling them. Then she left and never returned. A nurse discovered the bag and tubes on the cart and transferred them onto the counter because she had to take the cart out for disposal. The bag and tubes would have been thrown into garbage… together with other biowaste on the cart if the nurse had not taken a second look. Also, the bag and tubes were covered with blood. We had to beg a nurse to label them and pack the collection kit according to the instructions. After discovering that Senzon forgot to collect the cord tissue, we called her. She instructed staff to state that she asked “numerous times” during the delivery whether to collect the cord blood and tissue, and the husband “insisted” on only collecting cord blood. We confirm that Senzon never asked during the delivery. Her statement looks like a made-up excuse. Why would we “insist” on only collecting cord blood after paying the private cord blood/tissue banking company thousands of dollars for both cord blood and tissue, especially given that we had cord blood and tissue collected for our previous two kids? How was it possible for Senzon to ask “numerous times” during the busy delivery, especially considering the accidents? We left her voicemails, but Senzon never called us back. Dr. Shari Senzon’s unprofessionalism, incompetency and attitude are the worst I have ever seen.

My visit was for family planning and as a Ph.D. scientist, had many questions I hoped Dr. Senzon could answer based on her own experience and research. However, she was very condescending, held a fake smile the entire time, and laughed at many questions. She responded multiple times by saying, "I am not trying to be fresh, but ..." She was unfamiliar with CDC guidelines and recommendations for pregnancy, multiple times stating, "I have never heard of that." She was extremely patronizing regarding our difficulties becoming pregnant. She seems to be a doctor that tells people anything to get them to move on and out. When asked a test question about alcohol use during pregnancy, she said, "I wouldn't go crazy, but a drink here or there is okay." (It is not okay to drink any alcohol while pregnant). Often, she would respond as if implying I was the idiot in the room. Shari Senzon has ruined this practice in one visit.

I have been a patient of Dr. Senzon for 20 years. She is a wonderful Dr. and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an OBGYN. You will not find a more knowledgeable, compassionate, trustworthy doctor. Her warm smile and friendly demeanor put me at ease from the moment she enters the examination room.
