Dr. Thomas Daniel Ferro, MD

I had bilateral knee replacements and I was back to work as a maintenance mechanic at USPS in three weeks. I was instantly out of pain and I haven’t felt better in years. I have recommended Dr Ferro to anyone who will listen. One of my coworkers had the regular knee replacement on one knee and has been out three months and counting. It’s cost more out of pocket, but there is less recovery time, which will save you in the long run. I have had 13 orthopedic surgeries and these two, done at the same time had the least amount of recovery time. Dr. Ferro and his staff are by far the best I have ever seen.

I contacted Dr. Ferro’s office to arrange a video consultation (I live 80-miles from the nearest clinic) to determine if I was a candidate for the Nanoknee. Fine, appointment scheduled, insurance verification provided, as well as a multi-page “orientation package” submitted. Much to my surprise and disappointment less than a week before my appointment I was told that I needed to sign the Arbitration Agreement. I submitted the form but did not sign and indicated “I learned long ago to never voluntarily relinquish one’s rights." Nothing in the orientation package indicated that the Agreement HAD to be signed. The Agreement states (in part): “it is understood that any dispute as to medical malpractice, that is as to whether any medical services rendered under this contract were unnecessary or unauthorized or were improperly, negligently, or incompetently rendered, must be determined by submission to binding arbitration as provided by California law, and not by lawsuit or resort to… any court process except as California law provides for judicial review of arbitration proceedings.” Why have an Arbitration Agreement just for a consultation? It’s like putting the “cart before the horse,” no medical services or procedure was to be provided during the video consultation. What the Agreement is essentially saying is that “the doctor COULD be negligent or careless and make a mistake by performing the surgery and IF he did—I had no recourse but to agree to arbitration versus pursuing a medical malpractice suit. I understand and respect a doctor's right to require the Agreement before he/she renders service in his/her practice, but it doesn't instill a great deal of confidence in me about their competence. People who demand a signature before rendering service is obviously in the wrong business...to bully and coerce (or is it blackmail?) PROSPECTIVE patients into signing a document that only protects THE DOCTOR’S INTERESTS is just wrong and unethical.

$7500 out of pocket for a pre-fabricated joint.

I made an appointment to see Dr. Ferro and was called at the last minute to say he wouldn't be there but I could see the PA. Then another appointment was made and again at the last minute, while I am waiting in the waiting room they tell me he won't be there. I won't return. Office staff is unorganized. And I found out from others that he charges an out of pocket $7500 for a knee replacement. No thank you!

So I can't complain about my knee, it is doing as well as expected. What was upsetting to me is that I paid the required out of pocket $7500, yes you read that right, for what I was told was a specialized 3D modeling knee made just for me. What I found out is that it is an off the shelf prosthesis. The $7500 is not billable to insurance because you will sign a form that says it cannot be billed to insurance. And Nanoknee will not provide you with an itemized statement so essentially you don't know where that $7500 goes, but you can guess. Supposedly the 3D modeling is done by "3 bioengineers" and this is the cost to Dr. Ferro. It's hard to believe it would cost that much. Also be aware that you will be making out another check for whatever your insurance doesn't cover, and two minutes before you go into surgery. My insurance is 80/20 but in many instances they pay more and no one ever asked me ahead of time for 20%. So my insurance did in fact cover more and I am still waiting, 3… months later for Nanoknee to reimburse my money. Funny how you can get an itemized statement from any establishment and most without even asking. And they won't tell you who these bioengineers are or what company they work for. My two cents. And obviously I won't be going back to Dr. Nanoknee!

Front office shaky.They have message center on their website, but nobody monitors it. Also sent me on wild goose chase for Xrays. They never sent the order in. Dr. Ferro himself is a very good surgeon, and that's what's important.

He is the best surgeon ever. He is so kind caring along with his staff. In the Bakersfield office.

I knew I had Hip Osteoarthritis before my visit with Dr Ferro. I visited 3 other doctors that have me different feedback but they did not use the experience Dr Ferro has for any hip surgery I would need. I went in to look into hip resurfacing but Dr Ferro told me that surgery was off the shelf for women and that after reviewing my files I needed hip replacement. I made an appointment as soon as I could go have the surgery done I felt so good about Dr Ferro doing my surgery. I opted for same day surgery at Dr Ferros Surgicenter next door to his office. I was so glad to get this surgery over a d done with due to the high level of pain and immobility issues related to arthritic pain. The Surgicenter staff was amazing! Dr Ferro was at my side when I woke from anesthesia and all the nurses were top notch. I went home that night and was so glad to be able sleep in my own bed. I have sensitive skin that reacted to the glued on the ziptie sutures be the glue in the bandages. This was… news to me so my recovery was a bit slow but I had no pain after the surgery and needed no pain meds either. I took Tylenol and aspirin and that is it! I'm 4 weeks post surgery and walking stronger every day! Highly recommend Dr Ferro for any arthroplasty surgery at his Surgicenter or the hospital. Pick what is most comfortable for you for surgery. You will be in good hands with Dr Ferro. His office staff is ok. They are a busy group as Dr Ferro runs his business solo with no back up Dr. Dealing with his PA's was pretty good. I had an allergic reaction to glues in sutures and then antibiotics. His PA'scwere timely in scheduling me for visits and making sure I was healing properly. I start a walking routine next week! I am pain free thanks to Dr Feero and my new bionic hip! Thanks Dr Ferro!!!!!

I met Dr.Ferro in Bakersfield as he came to town to help scoi with knee replacements. He was always curtious and spent time with me as a patient answering all my questions. I spent 1 night in the hospital and went home with almost no pain. Very good personality on top of being a caring surgeon! Great job Doc!

Definitely would use Dr. Ferro again
