Dr. Victor Van Phan, DO

I work at medical center and I have to take off work to make my appointment, they have policy if you cancel your appointment less than 24 hours, they will charge you 50 dollars but no compensation for you if they give you less than 24 hours’ notice of cancellation. I have made appointment about 8 times since I started going to him and four times, they rescheduled me, twice the day before but the other two the day of appointment and the last one was 10 minutes before my arrival. I make my appointment on Friday afternoon as on Tuesdays and another day is his surgery but those days are convenient for me, I get a call at 12:30 that the Dr. has emergency surgery and if I could make it at 3:30 I told them I can be there at 3:45 and they said OK. I get a call at 3:35 asking my ETA and I told them I am 10 minutes away and they said sorry he cannot wait, and they must reschedule me. So, if you have to take PTO from work to make your appointment this is not the office for you, and you can’t… charge them 50 dollars for giving you less than 24-hour notice. Dr. Phan, if you get so much emergency surgery on Friday afternoons, Mark that time also so people don’t lose their PTO because I think your office is lying about your surgery. If you knew at 12:30 and patient could wait until 4 PM then they could wait 15 more minutes.

I am elderly and called to make appointment for hand problems and he refused to see me because another doctor had done the surgery which was 20 yrs ago and he was deceased. I have been in terrible pain because of a fall I had on these hands and needed care immediately. The office seemed understanding but the doctor was not. Stay away from this doctor from the reviews I just read about him. HDC

After years of right knee pain since I was in high school, I finally decided to see an orthopedic doctor. After hearing good things about Dr. Phan, I decided to schedule an appointment. The office staff was great with their bubbly personalities and answered the concerns I had as I was a bit nervous to see the doctor. Once in the room I didn't have to wait for the doctor very long and as soon as he came in he did not sugarcoat anything for me (that is a plus for me; I dislike doctors who are NOT straightforward). After speaking with him for a few minutes I did let him know surgery was not an option for me as I am young and a mother so i am unable to be off of work. Instead of forcing surgery on me he completely understood and stated that surgery will always be my choice unless it was urgently necessary. Fortunately for me all I needed was a weeks worth of medication plus another medication that i can take whenever the pain returns. If and when this pain returns I know I will call to… schedule another appointment.

If you are tired of having joint pain, come see Dr. Phan. He is straight forward and informative. He tells you what needs to be done and how to get back to your normal lifestyle again. His staff was always there to answer all of my questions. It took a lot of work but I am now running marathons again and golfing!

Dr. Phan performed both of my carpal tunnel surgeries. I was to the point where i could barely bend my fingers. He was so kind and informative about my condition. His staff and him helped me through the entire process before surgery and i did not have to worry about anything. If i do say so my self he is an amazing and caring surgeon. He gets straight to the point and made sure i understood my treatment. I would recommend him to everybody that is having any type of hand pain.. and now that i found out that he is also offering PRP i cant wait to visit him again to check on my knees.

this doctor is only concerned about turning a high amount of surgeries for the hospital. He ruined my mom's knee and then she broke her femur a week after his knee replacement and he had told us it would break immediately after surgery because instead of taking time to get another knee prosthesis for her he closed her up and said it won't work. Then he did a botched job on her femur and she cannot move at all and he discharged her from hospital because he wanted out of sight, out of mind. Beware of this man, he is all showman up front but will forget you after the surgery.

Horrible Doctor. Verbally abusive, flys off the handle and calls the cops on his patients when they call and request a pain med refill. This man should have his license revoked for his mis conduct. I hope Memorial Hermann will review this case and discipline him. Stay away from him. This is not an exaggeration. Stay away, especially if you are elderly, he has no patience for the elderly.

I've had excellent results with several different surgery's by Dr. Van Phan. Insurance caused a major delay on getting a MRI once but each surgery I've had were very well done. The only regret I have is like most doctors now days, they are so overloaded its hard to get a prompt appointment and sometimes I feel he rushes in, tells me what he wants me to hear then he's off to the next patient. All in all he is a very excellent doctor in his profession. I highly recommend him.

This doctor runs late at all his appointments, possibly needs to schedule patients better or take less

I have been seeing Dr. Van Phan for almost 5 years due to a knee injury when I was younger. In 5 years time my knee deteriorated so rapidly that I need a full knee replacement. I just turned 42. He has tried every last resort to keep me going instead of rushing to do surgery. He even told me to get 2nd and 3rd opinions. I have had absolutely no problems with his staff and I have never, in 5 years, seen him berate or belittle anybody. He just recently scoped my knee and the hospital staff couldn't say enough great things about him. Even the security guard told me he was great.
