Dr. Vijay Shri Kannan, MD

Firstly, I wish to state how I hate leaving negative reviews, for anyone. However, Being a patient of Dr Kannan has been amongst one of the worst experiences that I've ever had in my life. I wish to spare anyone else the unprofessionalism and negligence if I can, as I do not believe anyone can afford to be treated by their primary care provider as I have. She's quick to prescribe medications, and less apt to focus on lifestyle changes for health, which is what really helps a patient maintain their health I believe. I got diagnosed with high cholesterol, and she told immediately that she just wanted to put me on statins. With that, I can eat hamburgers and fried foods all I want. I would go on to say that maybe this is the result. I know she holds her medical degree from Madras Medical College in India. I'm not sure if she's accredited by any Medical University in America. But not studying properly in western medicine could make all the difference here. I'm not sure if this is related… to how thorough a job she does as a doctor, but in my personal experience, she also does not address patients needs in detail. I got an EKG done at her office, and what her office failed to tell me that I have an delayed heart electrical pulse. Something which my current doctors caught right away, and wrote me a referral to a cardiologist to go get checked out. Seriously, I'm baffled that her office missed something so serious as an issue with my EKG and my heart function! Also, as her patient, I asked her about something as minor as health supplement I was taking, which caused me a little concern since I did not know much about it. She took the time to write down the name I told and told me she would do research on it. Because she wasn't family with the ingredients she saw. I didn't have a problem with this, though it did cause me some concern, as from what I understood they were common nature supplements. However, she never bothered to call back. One of many times of neglect with her. She always seems to be running out of the office, and having her patients schedule appointments with the co-doctors because she does not work a full week's schedule. So if you need to see her for any issue that has any degree of urgency....good luck. And if you try to call her office after hours, and you are unfortunate enough get her as the doctor on call, she'll bear with you once. Then she'll get extremely irritable and curt any time after. She'll raise her voice, and tell you how you have to schedule time with her during working hours. That's if she doesn't fail to pick up or return your call completely. The rest of the time, Dr. Bala is the one to answer, who I did not have this issue with. She has this attitude if you are experiencing an emergency or have a question about medication you were prescribed. She treats you like a burden. Another tipping point with her I believe is also having to deal with insurance. There are certain referrals and charges, which insurance need to speak with physicians for before authorizing for patients. I believe it irritates Dr. Kannan to have to deal with this. If she has to do this too much for one of her patients, as it cuts into her personal time. Bottom line. She is nice at first, but don't by any means be a patient with serious medical needs. After trying to ingratiate myself with her, and still see the good in her, I was uninvited from her practice. I was dealing with some pretty substantial health issues, and Dr. Kannan no longer saw me worth it as a patient to keep seeing. In the end, I never got an explanation why. No phone call, not even a conversation the last time I went into the office to pick up my paper work. Instead, I got told via a letter the mail. Her front desk staff and receptionists are all nice, except the office manager, who avoids answering inquiries as well. I asked her also what had happened, and why I was being treated this way as a patient. She simply looked down at the floor, and told me Dr. Kannan would give an explanation (which never happened).

Attentive doctor...thorough and supportive...takes time to explain and answer any questions

Dr. Kannan is very knowledgeable and is comforting when it comes to how she cares for her patients. I've been under her care for several years now and always feel comfortable when I sit with her. Highly reccomend her to you!

Great first complete physical ever and at 71 years, I expect to stay healthy under Dr. Kannon's care!

This doctor is local. However like the previous reviewer I have been told she would call back when she did not. This is a huge concern When you are dealing with your health. She usually had a decent attitude but recently she was pretty rude. The practice keeps being sold. I am not sure what is really going on. It's better than nothing.

This doctor will promise to call you, and will not. I have left several messages for her to call about my test results, and she has not called me at all. This concerns me, and is a huge red flag. I am shopping for a new doctor.
