I can't say enough good things about Dr. Matheus! I first met him in the hospital after my left leg had gone numb. I had back issues but they had gotten worse. My original back surgeon I had been seeing for years refused to do surgery on me a 2nd time due to my age and BMI. I am overweight, but can't believe I'm disqualified from having surgery. I've had plenty of them. I had a prior surgery with this surgeon in 2013. Let's just say I was out of work for 3 months. All I had done was 2 discs worked on. I remember him saying on my first appointment after that I would need a fusion at some point in my life. I ended up in the hospital on a Monday after having fallen twice at home because I couldn't feel my leg. Dr. Matheus read my MRI report on a Tuesday and had me in surgery 2 days later. He was so kind when he first met me and gave me 2 options on surgery, but said that I definitely needed it. I am now 6 weeks post surgery and I am walking unassisted, back to work already, and most of… my discomforts are at night. Even then, I'm sleeping through the night now without much pain at all. I opted for the more complex surgery and it was the best thing I had ever done under his care! I had to have 2 discs removed completely, spacers put in place of them, rods and screws on L3-4; L4-5. The entire surgery was robotic assisted. To say the least I was super nervous. I've already given his name out to several people for a referral. He's definitely worth checking out if you have back issues.
