Dr. William Douglas Schell, MD

I saw Dr. Schell about a knee condition. His slipshod, cavalier approach was off-putting, but worse was his condescending and pretentious manner (his use of technical terms without any explanation of what he was talking about). Schell's evaluation was superficial and amounted to leaving me with a sheet of paper describing a few exercises. Once Schell concluded that I was not a candidate for surgery, he seemed eager to wrap up his evaluation. I felt he was dismissive of possibilities about my condition and was dissatisfied with his passing me off to physical therapy without a recovery plan. I immediately scheduled a visit with another doctor. And it was after that visit that I decided to write this review. I saw two doctors within a week of each other, who have the same specialization, and who used the same x-rays of my knee. Yet, the difference between the two was like night and day. In short, Schell missed the problem with my knee that the other doctor caught and is solving.

I am writing this to warn you! The office staff does not know what they are doing and will leave you stuck with a HUGE bill if you are not careful. I got a referral for an MRI- I made the MRI appointment, and when I did they had me call the office and ask for it to be faxed over. The office said they faxed the MRI. I take a half a day from work to finally get this MRI - I left work early (used half a day, that I can’t get back) I’m waiting at the hospital they never got the MRI- you will be billed for the MRI- do you know how much an MRI is?!?! That’s okay- I called the doctors office. Person 1) you’re suppose to get the auth?! What? Me? I can’t do that! That’s impossible! Why did you tell me you faxed it if you didn’t. Person 2) we will have it done, just wait until she gets it. Person 3) an hour later, what are you talking about. That girl you’re looking for doesn’t do auth! WHAT?!?! Person 4) why did you wait since Dec to do the MRI?! Does it… matter? You said you faxed everything over. I was away and I can’t just take off whenever I want. In addition to I couldn’t get an MRI appointment right away. I would STAY CLEAR of this place!!! I’m left in pain without an MRI! I am writing this to warn you! I came to Dr. Schell for a second opinion after having a complete torn of ACL; upon speaking with Dr. Schell I decided to pursue with surgery. Dr. Schell is one of the rare surgeons, kind, compassionate, having exceptional bed side manners, great communication skills, and I can go on and on to describe his professionalism and humble personality. I had the surgery recently and I am more than happy with the results. Moreover, his staff is living up to his standards, polite, efficient, and friendly. His office and surgical center are clean, modern, and run efficiently, yet still letting you feel like a human being and not a number ( many medical facilities nowadays tend to give one the vibe of a factory) I would highly recommended Dr. Schell to anyone in need of his expertise. I came to see Dr. Schell for a second opinion for my shoulder. I was previously told I needed surgery and felt uncomfortable with that diagnosis. I saw Dr. Schell who took the time to review my history and current symptoms as well as previous treatment and imaging. He did a thorough examination and recommended that I be treated non operatively. I am so happy I listened to him - I am now fully recovered and back to all activities. I am truly grateful and highly recommend Dr. Schell!

I recently had a visit with Dr. Schell and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Dr. Schell displayed superior bedside manner. He listened and did not perform unnecessary procedures. He was honest about my condition and presented the information in a professional and comprehensible manner. I especially liked that he wasn't trying to hustle me into additional procedures (I know I said it earlier but seriously I felt like he was a doctor not cars sales person). The staff - absolutely phenomenal. They were chipper, efficient, knowledgeable and did NOT have attitude. Love them! Two thumbs up from me!

He definitely seems to know his stuff and is extremely honest in that he did not recommend surgery, although he could've gotten lots of money from it!! Still, I truly did not feel like he gave me ample time. I think he spent close to 7 minutes with me, which I do not think is enough time to make an accurate diagnosis.

Respectful, charming, interested, passionate, funny, smart, thoughtful, experienced. Really pleasant to deal with/ be operated on.
