Dr. William Mansing Tang, MD

Dr. Tang literally saved my life. I was referred to him following floaters and a flashing light occurring in my left eye following cataract surgery. Dr. Tang said that the floaters in my left eye would resolve themselves and there was no retinal tear. He then asked if I had a heart problem due to plaque observed in my RIGHT eye, the ‘good’ eye. I had been hospitalized a month ago for chest pains. Extensive testing over four days, including nuclear & echocardiogram, led to no specific diagnosis. Dr. Tang insisted I contact my primary physician and see a cardiologist forthwith. I did. Within a day I had my carotid artery ultrasound which revealed a 90% blockage on the right. I had surgery to remove the plaque blocking my artery. Doctors at Tufts said if I hadn’t had the surgery NOW I would have suffered a massive stroke within a month because the plaque was flaking off and so far had only affected the facial (hence my eye) artery. I am home… recovering from the surgery but am indebted to Dr. Tang for his professionalism and expertise. Within a few days I would have been dead or crippled. I can’t begin the praise Dr. Tang high enough.

Dr. Tang is amazing. I met him for the first time when I needed emergency eye surgery and boy am I glad that I was referred to him for that surgery! What I truly appreciated was his willingness to answer any and all question, walk you through exactly what was going to happen and what the possible outcomes could be. I'd also like to give a big shout out to his office staff who couldn't be nicer.

Dr. Tang is thorough, professional and comprehensive in examinations, explanations and follow-up. He writes great post visit letter/summaries.

I am very fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Tang in an emergency. The examination revealed a detached retina requiring immediate surgery which took place in less than 24 hours. Dr. Tang, in a confident manner, clearly explained the seriousness of the situation, what the surgery entailed and what to expect during the recovery process. Dr. Tang performed emergent surgery on my eye for a detached retina after I was referred to him by my regular ophthamologist. Dr. Tang actually met me at his office on a Saturday (his day off) for an evaluation and performed the surgery on Monday at the surgical center in Waltham. Dr. Tang is a highly skilled and very competent clinician...I have since fully recovered. BTW - all of his office and support staff that I have interacted with have been polite, friendly and competent. Two thumbs up!

I had cataract surgery from a different doctor who found some damage from an accident years earlier. Dr. Tang saw us on a moments notice. His staff was wonderful and caring. He performed the surgery and repaired the damage. He was very caring and even called the night of the surgery to make sure I was ok.

There can be a bit of a wait at the office but Dr Tang has incredible skill and even routine exams I feel are thorough.

I had a very difficult cataract surgery, which did not go well, was then referred to Dr. Tang, he corrected the problem, his skills are impeccable, he is precise, and a master of his craft, total confidence in the procedures, plus excellent follow up care, thank you Dr. Tang!

Dr. Tang fixed my first detached retina more than 10 years ago did a great job. Less than a year later, I had my second detached retina in the other eye. He did a great job. He is a very thorough and knowledgeable doctor. Sometimes the wait is long and it feels like he is rushed sometimes, but I feel like I'm in good hands with Dr. Tang. I would recommend him very highly. Thank you Dr. Tang!

Today after at my two-year checkup, Dr. Tang commented on how well the retina repair was holding up. I said, “Well, you did it!” On a weekend in February 2003, I knew something had happened to my right eye. I called my optometrist who contacted Dr. Tang. Dr, Tang then called me and after asking me questions about my symptoms, requested that I meet him at 7pm that night at his office on Rte 135. My wife and I arrived at a closed building with no lights on. A few minutes later Dr. Tang arrived and had to unlock the doors and turn on the lights. He asked me questions, performed an exam, and told me I needed surgery. I was prepared for a major event that had to be scheduled. When I asked him for the surgery date, he told me “right now.” As I mentioned at the start of the review, he does great work. I’ve had no issues since. In addition, he employs a competent and friendly staff. I recommend him highly.
