Dr. Delia Nai-Yueh Sang, MD

Dr. Sang is by far the most conscientious and thorough physician I have ever been to. Her primary concern is for the patient's well-being, which is why I still continue to see her for treatment of my macular degeneration after moving 118 miles away from her office. Over the years there have been several occasions when I had to call her at home for advice regarding a sudden change in my vision. Once when I was in Eastern Europe I called and left a message regarding a problem I was having. She returned my call within minutes and then called me hours later to check on my condition. The sense of security I derive from knowing that I can call her any time is very well worth the 2-3 hour drive to her office and, the wait time once I arrive (reasonable, considering the number of different scans that are taken each time I come, and the time needed to read them). The medical profession will certainly lose a wonderful, caring practitioner when Dr. Sang retires. Dr. B

I have been a senior physician at the Beth Israel Medical Center and on the faculty of Harvard Medical School for over forty years. I’ve had a multitude of medical challenges over the years requiring the input, advice and counsel of doctors form about ten different specialties. In my self interest have always sought out what I consider to be top drawer performers in each discipline. This has resulted in my getting treatment at MGH, BIDMC, Mass Eye & Ear, St. Elizabeth’s, Joslin and more. Doctor Delia Sang is not only a top drawer performer she is the best of the very excellent group of top rated specialists I have consulted. She is knowledgeable, focussed, available and extremely detail orientated. The best of the best would be an understatement. The onset recently of new symptoms related to my eye health was assessed by Doctor Sang. The initial consultation took four hours and embraced multiple measurements, photography, ultrasound studies and more. The findings raised issues not… only in relation to my eye health but also issues related to my general health requiring consultation and coordination with multiple medical specialists. In the first two weeks under her care I underwent four of these prolonged four hour assessments. Not fun but clearly necessary. No stone was left unturned in her vigorous and focussed mission to give the best care possible. Many of my recent medical challenges are fortunately slowly being relegated to “rear view mirror status” in no small part because of the excellence of her performance-not only in regard to my eye health but the implications my eye symptoms had on my general health. You will not get better care anywhere else!! Highly recommended!!

I am a retired physician (MD Johns Hopkins 1978). I found Dr Sang on line, and called her for symptoms that were dismissed by another highly qualified ophthalmologist as “normal exam”. Dr Sang scheduled me the very next day, tested me with scans not ordered by the first examiner, and discovered a serious problem with my retina (a blood clot blocking the vein). She treated me with a relatively new medication, and the results were rapid and highly positive. I should add, early on, she was concerned about the remote possibility of a complication, and met me at her office 5pm on a sunday!! And she was scheduled for a hip replacement that following week!! I was familiar with the significance of this degree of dedication, having accompanied my father to his medical office on similar Sundays, and having gone to see quite a few patients in those circumstances in my own practice. I have been a patient of Dr Sang now for well over a year, and my only wish is that there were more than 5 stars… in the rating chart.

Dr. Sang is a great doctor and you will be in good hands. The office is old and the staff are very rude. One time they discussed my insurance situation loudly in front of everybody and even though I offered to pay cash, they were about to Turn my away. Dr. Sang is too busy and it’s it practically possible to discuss these concerns with her. Also there is no privacy in the exam room. One of the staff is always in the room and some of them keep coming and going. But Dr Sang is great and that is why I tolerate the terrible staff who usually are terrible at pre-appointment exams.

This happens EVERY single time. Dr Sang apparently thinks it’s perfectly acceptable to keep elderly patients in her office for up to 4 hours!!!!! The process is broken in this office. There is NO TV, NO magazines, No water or snacks for these elderly patients who sit for HOURS waiting for this Dr. NO Dr is worth this..

Yes the wait time can be long, but that's because she give every patient 110 percent! I have seen her for many years for AMD, and then to compound that I just had a torn retina. She took me in as an emergency patient and did laser surgery starting at 11 pm! Always kind and gracious. I'd give her 6 stars if I could.

Wait time 3 hours plus, Office disorganized and dirty. I had a 9:00 am appointment and was seen at 12:00 pm. When I asked when the doctor would be in I was told she doesn't show up until after 9:30 am. No respect for other people's time. Will not be back.

To this point I can only say that Dr Sang's intelligence, bedside manner, and apparent consumate skill as a surgeon make her an extraordinary physician.

Dr. Sang closed a macular hole in my right eye 9 years ago, saving the sight in that eye! She is the most professional and thorough ophthamologist that I have ever seen and from all who have experienced her treatment seems to be the best in the Boston area!

I gave Dr. Sang the highest rating for "Promptness," even though a typical visit to her consumes about three hours of a patient's time. "Promptness" is a relative term. Considering how important my vision is to me, I'd rather wait five hours to be treated by one of the best retinal specialists among the elite of the elite than wait twenty minutes to be treated by a second-rate doctor. Interestingly, while patients in her waiting room occasionally comment on how long it takes before they finally enter the presence of the doctor, I never hear anyone complain about it. They think she is worth waiting for. Dr. Sang has a "Bedside Manner" that instantly inspires confidence. Having visited her regularly for about fifteen years because of retinal problems in each of my eyes, I can enthusiastically attest to her unwavering competence, articulateness, and compassion. If you ever have any retinal issue that needs to be addressed, I do not believe you could find a specialist with whom you… would feel more comfortable or be more satisfied than Delia Sang, M.D.
