Dr. Drew Alan Peterson, MD

It was clear upon entering California Orthopedic Institute that the staff are disorganized. When one has to wait longer than 30 minutes for their appointment overbooking is an issue. I find this behavior to be rude and disrespectful. As to Dr Petersons competency I guess one could wait a few hours to find out. In this time of covid why a doctor would leave someone sitting in reception with no explanation is beyond me.

Outstanding and knowledgeable

Dr Peterson did such a great job on my cubical tunnel surgery! I was as good as new after, he's a great dr. And makes you feel at ease when you visit his office

Without any testing except for an xray, within my first visit he was talking about doing surgery on my hand for tendonitis and gave me a shot in my thumb. My second visit he told me if a shot in my carpal tunnel nerve did not work than my next only option is surgery. His bedside manner is the worst I have ever experienced. As I was asking him questions to understand more about what is happening in my wrist and why he thinks I need surgery with no further testing or more conservative therapies first he interrupted me to tell me what he needs me to do at that moment is get up on his table. After he gave me my shot his medical assistant waits outside his door flagging him away to his next appointment. His other assistant who put my splint on was kind enough to stay long enough to explain what to expect after having a cortison shot into my hand. I would not recommend using this doctor unless you have acute injury such as having your hand smashed to pieces and it needs to be reconstructed.

I should have known from the first phone call attempting to make an appointment that this was a red flag. I was put on hold FIVE times during the process. Unacceptable and unprofessional, no apolgy given.When I showed up for my appointment on time, I filled out my paperwork, gave them my insurance card, and made my co-pay. I waited 45 minutes in the waiting room. I complained to the receptionist and she blew me off like it was my duty to wait. After a few minutes, I was taken into the exam room where I sat for over an hour and 15 minutes waiting to see Dr. Peterson. I was livid. After a very quick diagnosis (which was accurate), he recommended a treatment of injecting me with steriods which I clearly stated on my forms that I am allergic/sensitive to. He didn't bother to read my file. That was it, I was done with this guy. I wouldn't have trusted him with my care or wellbeing.Upon my exit, I noticed some of the patients still in the waiting room. What? There are no excuses… for scheduling and then making the patient wait more than 15 minutes....none. I cannot emphasize enough that YOU are the employer in this case and the doctor is YOUR employee. There are many qualified physicians in this city that have the skills and considerations which we seek that will blow these unprofessionals out of the water. I might mention that there are six doctors in this office and three receptionists. It is run like a factory. Proof of insurance is FIRST, then the copay, then you fill out the paperwork. Those are the priorities. You are not the priority and I can attest to that fact through my experience. Fortunately I located another doctor which has since finished the operation and follow-up. I was more than pleased with his office, staff, and the care I received.You do have options. Exercise them.

To start off with, it took them a week to reply to my primary care physician's referral. Once there, I had a run in with the office manager. She was rude at best. To help illustrate how this HR professional choses to portray herself, below her Degree in Human Resources (National University, I believe) she keeps a small clay crock which reads, "Ashes of Problem Employees." Not reassuring for anyone who works there, I'm sure. Along with her ash-pot, she keeps her various religious icons. Mind you she brings patients into this office and seemingly shares it with another person (there was a second desk there). Not best practices at all for an HR person. Her behavior and attitude were worse than her judgement in office decor. Dr Peterson was professional, personable and agreeable. But due to the behavior of the non-medical staff, I would not recommend this office to anyone.
