Dr. Eric Alan Packwood, MD

Dr. Packwood has been amazing. He’s helped us understand the diagnosis and been readily available to answer any questions. Our appointments have always been on time and we don’t feel rushed while we are in there. The whole staff has made us feel welcomed and cared for.

Terribly rude man

Would rather talk over you and be in and out than fix your child's eye issue. You will wait on average 45 minutes from your appointment start time, just to be shuffled out quickly telling you all is well and not fixing your child's issues. If you try to tell him otherwise he interrupts you and talks over you. Modern day snake oil salesman/Con artist.

I have 5 children and he has done corrective surgery on 3 of my kids and Dr. Packwood is magnificent doctor. They have appointments coming up in May. I would recommend him to everyone that needs specialty eye surgery. He gets a 5 star review from me.

We’ve had a great experience with Dr. Packwood over 4 appts. and an upcoming surgery. We chose him because he was the #1 doc recommended by family members and friends who work at Cook. They entrust all their most difficult cases to him, and he is an excellent surgeon. He also answered my many questions and always asked if I had any more. One time I could not attend the appointment, so I wrote down several questions for my husband to ask, and he gave very detailed answers that helped me understand what was going on with my child’s eyes. Today, when he recommended surgery, he said that he is a parent, too, and he understands that any surgery for a child is a big deal, so if we would like to get a second opinion, he would not be offended at all. I appreciated this sentiment, and it stands in stark contrast to some older reviews. Perhaps he has worked on his bedside manner in the past few years. I do not like the wait time in the office, since my toddler is climbing the walls by… the time the doctor comes in, and it is hard for me to listen to what he says while I’m trying to soothe a crying baby or keep him from escaping. But I know this is how a lot of doctor’s offices are run, and he might not have any say over it. He does, however, apologize for the wait. Overall, we are glad he is our doctor and feel like we are in the best hands going into surgery.

My granddaughter is 15 years of age and has been seeing Dr. Packwood since she was 3 year of age. He operated on her eyes for strabismus and has examined and prescribed glasses since then on an annual basis. We love Dr. Packwood. He and his staff have always been so patient with granddaughter. She is very inquisitive and always been and she has ADHD so it was very hard for her to sit still early on. Everytime she ask the question "what's that?" they stopped and took time to answer her. Our experience has been wonderful and we will continue to see Dr. Packwood as long as he will see us going forward. Not sure about at what age she should go to an adult doctor. We haven't even talked about that yet. I would recommend Dr. Packwood to my friends and I have do so several times. We have had a great experience!

In reading the various reviews of Dr. Packwood, I notice that patients either say he is wonderful and friendly, or he is condescending. Of course, as is often the case with many Doctors, you will run into the occasional review where you wonder if the patient has the true issues, and not the Dr. I read a couple of bad reviews for him that raised some red flags, but given his credentials, how widely recognized he is, and the charity work he has done, I made the decision to schedule an appointment for my child. The staff was very friendly. One of the assistants that saw us briefly, was very down to earth and had a warm manner. The main assistant seemed quick to judge, and quick to announce her assumptions on the possible diagnosis, causing unecessary concern. The Dr. met me with a confusing question, that turned out to be a sarcastic joke, that he didn't explain. I typically view doctor's as, of course, the expert and I show them respect. I listen closely to what they say, and… sometimes ask questions so I better understand. I do not believe it is appropriate to give a Dr. any attitude. I even respect no nonsense doctors that have less than desirable bedside manners. Dr. Packwood was very condescending. He frequently interrupted me, and instead of answering my questions, he chose to lecture me in a belittling sort of way. I understand that some may love him. Some people can seem like the salt of the earth until you see them interact with a person that have some sort of prejudice against. I was repectful. He was not. I will not go into my child's minor eye issue, but I will say that what he recommended was not effective. Needless to say, my child's eye has improved without his help.

This doctor and another colleague at the same practice are not all that good with kids. They're very rushed, abrupt, and don't listen when the child speaks. The practice is discriminatory against religious beliefs other than Christian--there were superstitious religious placards on the walls of the exam rooms offering the opportunity for Christians only to pray with the doctors, but no such opportunity for Jews, Muslims, Sihks, Hindus, Native Americans, Universalists, or others. Extremely ethnocentric. His diagnosis was accurate, but I found another doctor, albeit 50 miles away, that is accurate, good with kids, AND embraces diversity.

I don't even know where to start regarding my visit with dr Packwood. I scheduled and appointment with dr packwood because my daughter's eye kinda wandered in like a lazy eye. My daughters pediatrician suggested I just patch it up because it was nothing major but as a concerned mother I took it upon myself to get an opinion from an eye specialist. I only visited dr packwood once and that is all it took to know that i will NEVER be back.The total visit took about 2 hrs + but time wasn't an issue for me since I did notice they had A LOT of patients. After the eye tests Dr packwood finally came back to our room and said he was prescribing my daughter glasses and that he wanted to put her under anesthesia for an MRI. I began to question if both were really necessary and why. He became very upset with me for asking questions and told me these exact words "if you go to another dr and they don't recommend what I recommended to you they are incompetent and shouldn't be a dr and if you don't… trust me then I can't be your daughters dr." I explained to him the reasons for him wanting an MRI we unnecessary. Dr packwood told me my daughter might be overweight or underweight and might not develop properly ie might be delayed if he didn't do the MRI. I clearly told him according to the pediatrician my daughter was very healthy and ahead for her age. Dr packwood was very upset that I was questioning his order for an MRI. He instructed me to go to the checkout receptionist who again was very pushy on trying to get me to schedule and MRI with them and i told her very firmly i was not going to have an mri done.I visited dr packwood in the Fort Worth office and to their convenience they have an optical upstairs and yes they try very hard to get you to buy glasses from them. Moving forward I checked out paid my balance and left. A couple days later I received a voicemail from the office manager requesting I call back to schedule the MRI I ignored the call since I thought I had made myself clear on the date of the visit. To my surprise I received more phone calls but in these messages the manager was threatening to report me to cps for neglect to my daughter. I could not believe they were actually threatening me so I followed up with my pediatrician who reassured me my daughter was not at risk and to ignore them. The last call I received the manager stated that if I didn't call her back she would report me that day. I finally called and told her I was going to follow up with a different dr because dr packwood himself told me he couldn't be my daughters dr if I didn't trust him. She went on to tell me I didn't have a choice on the MRI and insisted I schedule it. I told her we will never ever be back there and explained to her that I do have a choice on which dr my daughter sees. I told her to never call me again and if she wanted to report me to go ahead and do it and if she had any concerns to call my daughters pediatrician. I have all voicemails and the call recording. A patient shouldn't be treated the way we were treated just wanted to give anyone who was considering visiting dr packwood a heads up. God bless

Dr. Packwood's true colors showed when he made some very poor choices in communicating with my wife during our daughter's last visit. Our daughter has a very serious muscle condition, and Dr. Packwood accused my wife of missing multiple appointments, which she did (and he subsequently verified later,) and also that "if she was not going to give our daughter proper care, then he could be sued and we would affect his ability to feed his family, etc" This guy's ego is unbelievable, and I had to make sure others know what he is really like. See the other reviews as well. Dr. Packwood's arrogance and condescending nature will come out if the right situation arises. Although Opthamologist in Southlake, TX, Dr. Packwood, is a knowledgeable Opthamologist, he made some very inappropriate and unnecessary comments to my wife and child during our last visit. When I asked to speak with Dr. Packwood, he called me back promptly. However, when I attempted to tell him about my wife's experience, he… interrupted me frequently and was very condescending. He said specifically, "I do not control your wife's emotions and am not responsible for her feeling unhappy," that "I don't need your opinions to be a better Doctor," and that "I will be just fine" when I had mentioned to him that I am likely to tell others about our incredibly poor experience with Dr. Packwood and his disregard for our feedback. Futher, when I told him I would rate him poorly on this site, he stated "That will be FANTASTIC." This just proves how arrogant and disrespectful he is. Do you really want him to take care of your child? We don't and are heading to another opthamologist in Southlake.
