Dr. Gary Paul Kaplan, MD

As others have indicated, this guy is incompetent to the point of being deadly. After my mother received brain surgery for a serious leaking brain aneurysm which led to a stroke, he was brought in to assess whether she was "suitable" for receiving therapy. She was sleeping peacefully when he did the assessment. Let me say that again: AFTER MAJOR BRAIN SURGERY, SHE WAS SLEEPING PEACEFULLY WHEN HE DID THE ASSESSMENT. (She had been awake and responsive several times beforehand.) He quickly labelled her as "unresponsive" and as a direct result she was denied the critical therapy needed to save her life.

Without a doubt the worst doctor to ever treat me. Told me I was in fine condition did not do use operation whereas two surgeons told me if I don’t have the operation I would be paralyzed.

Completely unprofessional and lazy! Took over two weeks to get a simple MRI ordered. The day I was finally able to even make the MRI appointment I was told they would fax the script to the imaging place...showed up at the imaging place four days later and they had received nothing. Spent the entire appointment time calling the office to get the script sent (and the correct one at that) and ended up having to reschedule because the staff in the office weren't competent enough to send a correct MRI script in an entire hour (plus the four days before). Was put on hold in the middle of speaking and told to "be patient". Been a week since the imaging place sent Kaplan's office my results and still have yet to hear back. Absolutely inexcusable.

I had a cold feeling in my hand for many months. My GP sent me to both a vascular surgeon and a Neuorlogist as one of those was likely the culprit. Dr. Kaplan spent less than 5 minutes with me (half of the time sitting at his desk) before saying I should get an MRI. I've since been told that as he clearly couldn't have had enough diagnositic information with a brief conversation to justify an MRI to the insurance company it was denied. His office called a couple of days later saying it was denied. That's it. No next steps. I spent the next 8 -10 months going from specialist to specialist trying to figure out what was going on. Eventually I met a fantastic Hand and Wrist specialist who, once he heard about my experience with Dr. Kaplan, insisted I see a competent neurologist asap. He gave me the name and number of the doc he considered the best. Saw him the next week, and he spent nearly 2 hours examining me from top to bottom doing everything from poking me with a toothpick to… comparing the different sides of my body's reaction to an ice cube . He then walked me over to his secretary and told her that we need to get me an MRI immediately. After all of the diagnositic work he had done, the MRI was approved within 24 hours. 2 days later I learned that I had a 5cm brain tumor that needed to be removed as soon as possible. So, thanks Dr. Kaplan for giving my tumor 8 more months to grow.
