Dr. Gisela Velez, MD

Long waits, went to get transfer paper work,no staff, only one person who is there. And she was leaving to.my paper work never got to my new Dr. That was 2 months ago.

This doctor was good. However, the amount of time waiting is intolerable. We arrived for apt at 2:15 and did not get seen till 5PM. I had to cancel all afternoon visits with the rest of my clients to accommodate waiting for Dr Valdez. I think an executive decision needs to be made. Either hire a second and or third doctor or schedule testing and doctor visits separately and promptly. The lady waiting next to me had to re-arrange her transportation. She waited so many hours that her medical transport was cancelled because it was too late.

I have been going to Dr Brusie and now Dr Velez for years. This practice is excellent. Yes, there is a long wait time to be seen but if you wish to be seen by the best for eye care the wait is worth it. I find both of these doctors to be through, kind, explain things well snd have a definite concern for the treatment and on going care of your eyes. I would and have recommended them to friends. I don’t care how long I wait to see them. It is worth it and they both have had medical training at some of the best of schools. So all complainers suck it up if you want excellent eye care near your home.

Although some complain about their sometimes being a wait time, I find that the personal, professional, knowledgeable, and kindness of Dr. Velez to be more than worth the wait. I would rather wait, knowing that not only am I getting the best care possible, so are all her other patients.

During the pandemic, when we are isolating from each other, I actually look forward to my visits. The staff is friendly and courteous, extraordinary safety measure are taken, and Dr. Velez is excellent. She takes the time to review and explain your treatment. It's true that there can be long wait times but it's worth it.

Not a good staff and not a good doctor she has ancient equipment and doesn't know what she's doing. Completely overrated horrific

This was my fourth and last visit to Dr. Velez. I should have known enough not to have even scheduled the first visit just by reading the reviews. I was referred to Dr Velez for an epiretinal membrane a bit over a year ago. She came highly recommended by the referring physician so when I read her reviews and saw her impressive background, I chalked up complaints about her wait times to the inevitable disgruntled patient(s) or unusual circumstances. At my first visit I recall being amazed at how long it seemed to take to get to see the Dr. I believe that it was well over 2 hours and that I spent much of that time sitting in an exam chair telling jokes with the very good natured assistant. When she did arrive, Dr Velez said I was on the cusp of qualifying for surgery. I booked the second appointment for the first slot after lunch to be sure that I was the first in line. Despite this I had a similarly long wait and I think I recall that this one was over 3 hrs. The Dr… said I was now qualified for surgery. We discussed the procedure’s risks and benefits. Given the risk for a negative outcome I determined to seek a 2nd opinion. I went to a highly respected Dr in Boston. He scoffed at the idea that I would risk this procedure at this stage of my problem. I was in and out of his office in under 30 minutes and I returned to Dr. Velez for my 3rd visit. I was in a waiting room the size of a closet with many other patients, all of whom were waiting for the Dr and all of whom were complaining about a history of this. I again waited at least 2 hrs to see the Dr. I told the Dr about the 2nd opinion. My vision checked out on the cusp of qualifying for surgery this time and we determined to follow up in 6 months. Today I returned at 9:40 for a 9:45 appointment. By 10 I was in the waiting closet with 3 other Dr Velez patients (9, 9:30 and 10). At 10:15 a 4th came in and we were standing room only. An assistant was asked if the Dr was in yet and we were told 'no'. By 10:35 another patient joined us and none of us had left the room to see the Doctor. All of the patients were complaining about the Dr's record with waiting time, some saying they had waited up to 4 hrs in the past. With 3 other patients ahead of me I determined to leave. On my way out I let the receptionist know that I was very unhappy with the way the other patients and I were treated. I told them that it was clear to me that the Dr valued her own time more highly than she valued ours. It hurt to watch the receptionist hear my complaints because it was clear that they had heard these things before. Before I got to the car I got a call from the office saying that the Dr would bump me to the front of the line. I left no doubt with the caller about my anger at the idea that the Dr would value the time of the other patients even less than she valued mine. I will now drive an hour each way to see a Dr in Boston and I will likely still spend less time than it takes to see Dr Velez who is just 10 minutes from my home. And I will have the invaluable added benefit of a top notch surgeon who does not jump so quickly to high risk surgery.

I am a caregiver and I so upset on how the older people are treated here. So many of them have been waiting up to 5 hours to see the doctor and they say it is like that all the time. That is unexceptable in my book, no one should have to wait that long for an appointment. The last time I was there I told them we only had an hour after that I was leaving. An hour came and we left, my mother went back and waited another hour to be seen. Sorry but no one should be treated that way, don;t over book and if you have too many patients get help don't leave them in the waiting room.

Dr velez performed laser surgery on me about 10 years with excellent results . I recently returned to her care for a retinal hemmorage, she operated on eye several times to remove the blood residue. During her treatment she found retinal detachment. I am currently on antibiotic/antifungal IV s ,
