Dr. Howard Craig Goldberg, MD

Inadequate local anesthesia for prostate biopsy, and no offers of pre-medication or post-medication for pain. Did not use intrarectal lidocaine gel prior to the procedure. Told me a couple of weeks prior to the procedure he would inject lidocaine into each side of the prostate. This (if done) was totally ineffective. Literature indicates that periprostatic nerve block is much more effective (similar to dentist using nerve block injection), but he didn't indicate whether or not he did this. Given the pain I experienced, I assume he didn't. The presumed lidocaine to the prostate was painful. He didn't warn me that the biopsy instrument would make a loud click at the same time the pain came so it startled me. Overall it felt like torture. After the 12 biopsies I was lightheaded and nauseated. (Overall I consider this experience physically and psychologically traumatic.) When I eventually got up I found that the pad beneath my bottom was soaked with blood (also distressing) - he… responded "that's par for the course". He told me I was OK to carry on and engage in my usual activities, blood in urine and feces and ejaculate would be expected. I couldn't complete my work day due the pain and discomfort in my nether regions. My first BM included clots, fortunately none further. I had varying dribbles of blood in my urine for about 3 weeks. At almost a month out, my 3 trial masturbatory experiences have yielded a nasty brown production that is worrisome. Fortunately no infection. I have now been diagnosed as having prostate cancer, so now on to Radiotherapy Clinics of Atlanta (doctor there gets 5 stars on rating sites). Overall Dr G is a nice guy but, like most surgeons, downplays the suffering you will experience and offers no comments or explanations about what is about to happen during the process. I hope this narrative about my experience is of help to you.

I was referred to Dr. Goldberg by my primary care internist for evaluation of an elevated PSA. Office staff are friendly and upbeat. Dr. Goldberg is a very nice guy, very easy to interact with, very straightforward which I appreciate, very on-point about a variety of evauation options. I return to him soon for further dialog about what comes next in my evaluation process, and look forward to seeing him again. I highly recommed him. (I am a doctor so I have picky standards - he meets all of my criteria for someone I want to be involved in my health care.)

Made appt. for test .got sheet for procedure with date and time.Did all prep and reported on time and was told they did not schedule so I would need to reschedule.No we are sorry for inconvenience. Nothing. Uncomfortable about the group now. Will probably go elsewhere for my needs in future.

best doctor i have ever had. dr. goldberg really knows his medicine.
