My MIL was admitted to the Granbury location (Lakeside Medical) on Oct 24 for placement of a spinal stimulator device. Dr. Pena attempted to implant the trial leads for this device and quote "nicked" her spine resulting in paralysis in her left leg. She was hospitalized then moved to nursing care. Dr. Pena removed the trial leads in the nursing home. She was sent home from nursing care in a wheel chair. She has now fallen this week while trying to transfer herself from her wheel chair and fractured her ankle in two places. She walked into the out patient facility and ended up in a wheel chair. This appears to be a permanent disability. Sad....

Bad exeriences with this dr. after 2 visits. He did not have a pleasant personality nor bedside manner. He immediately took me off a depression med. that I had been on for over 10 yrs. telling me to my face to do so, which I did but I needed to be weaned off of. Took me off another med for anxiety then replaced them with pregablin for pain. This med was useless. Told me to not use aleve which orthopedic told me take for all my swelling. My knee swelled up horribly and extreme pain. Nurse told me there were no notes in my record saying he changed my meds. I tried several times to schedule a new appt., with no receptionist and left 2 messages on different days for Dr. to call me to make an appt. I was in extreme pain for several months and the last time I did see him he hurt me so bad by not numbing my knees properly and I was screaming quietly. All he said was if I continued he would not do the lyrica shots. I asked him to numb me more, nothing. He said it was suppose to hurt. I told… him it really hurt but I need something done as I could not even walk. After that horrible exp. he walked to the door and put his hand on my shoulder and said you did good. I was so livid. The bill was for over $500 for 2 shots. My insurance pd. but I could never, ever, ever trust him to do anything to my body especially a nerve block! Suggested I could do under local anesthesia. I asked will it hurt? His reply was of course it will hurt. Do not ever want to even hear this man's name again. Stay away from this rude and cruel doctor. I'd go to Ft. Worth if I had to so I would not ever deal with him again. I also would not recommend to an enemy. Should not be practicing without a supervisor.

I am very easy to get along with and have had many surgeries. Stay away from him - as far as you can. Very unprofessional and even called my cell phone in the hospital several times when I turned the nurse down on some experimental meds he was using on me. This was over a year ago and I still think of it each day - it was that bad.
