Dr. James C. Walter specializes in arthroscopy and the treatment of sports-related injuries. He is committed to the highest quality of care for all athletes ranging from youth to professional.

A native of Oklahoma, Dr. Walter attended Stanford University. In 1991 he earned a B.S. in Biological Sciences and graduated with Distinction. Dr. Walter received his medical degree from Washington University School in St. Louis. Dr. Walter completed an orthopedic residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas. Following his residency, Dr. Walter was awarded a prestigious surgical fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. He trained with Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Bill Clancy. During his time there, Dr. Walter assisted in team care of the University of West Alabama and the Birmingham Barons. He also assisted in the care of college and professional athletes from around the country and world.

Joining Texas Orthopaedic Associates in 2001, Dr. Walter currently serves as Orthopaedic Team Physician for Allen High School, Wakeland High School and Little Elm High School. He serves as an Orthopaedic Consultant to the University of Texas at Dallas, Prestonwood Christian Academy and Creekview High School. He is known for his expertise in shoulder and elbow injuries of the throwing athlete as well as arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee, shoulder and elbow.

Dr. Walter is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He participates in resident education as an Assistant Clinical Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Walter’s professional affiliations include membership in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America and the Texas Society of Sports Medicine. He has served as the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano and serves as a Board Member of Texas Health Center for Diagnostics and Surgery.
