Dr. John Steven Daken, MD

Do not waste your money, time or sanity with Dr. Daken. After the first session I was actually impressed. He had done a thorough initial evaluation with all sorts of questionnaires. He proceeded to ask me why I was on such a high dosage of a Abilify. I sincerely said I didn’t know and so he lowered it. My symptoms instantly got worse. Depression was rearing its ugly head again. The second session I explain these symptoms to Dr. Daken and he agrees that I should go back to my original dosage. Fine. I don’t expect a doctor to be a magician. Third session however he then asks me AGAIN “why are you on so much of this medication?” I was floored. He repeated the same questionnaires and then proceeded to tell me that my “depression was 50% better and my anxiety was 25% better…” He also claims to work with addiction. This is FALSE. I expressed my sincere concerns with my cannabis usage with him during the initial evaluation. I told him how I wanted to quit and he gave me zero advice. By the… third session I told him that my medical card had expired to which he said “I don’t prescribe.” Fine. Then help me!! He gave me no support and didn’t point me in the direction of help either. He could have just been honest and upfront about not knowing anything about addiction.

Doesn't care about patients. Never will go the extra mile to help others. My advice - find a doctor who is not a clock watcher

Dr. Daken has changed my life for the better by helping me discover difficult and deeply rooted pain that I had to face as well as learn how to accept (so that I could move forward more happily in life). The reality of what anyone needs to do to enjoy their life more completely is a huge thing to try and realize. We are all works in progress. Sometimes we need help. Dr. Daken is the best kind of help. I highly recommend him. Psychotherapy is a tough thing to do. It takes courage and someone who is skilled and acutely patient and thorough. I have seen a few therapists and Dr . John Daken was the first one where I feel like we "finished" the cycle of care. It was an experience that continues to give me the tools and insight into my experience and how I cope with it to make my life better, every single day.
