Dr. John Patrick Martin, MD

I've been a patient of Dr. Martin for more than 20 years using both of his two locations convenient to Alexandria. Dr. Martin is thorough and precise in his examinations and explains my options well. I have complicated vision issues and he knows how to treat them and when to refer me to another specialist. The office staff are easy to work with and unfailingly polite and friendly. Occasionally I've seen other doctors in this practice for my double vision treatment of when Dr. Martin was unavailable. I had equally good results there too. I can highly recommend Dr. Martin and this practice in general.

I cannot speak about Dr. Martin, because the STAFF WAS SO RUDE I never actually set up an appointment. They may be better in person, but they really need to work on their phone manners. I had a very simple insurance question. (This is my insurance, do you accept it?) and she told me to call back after I contacted the insurance company to find out if their office was on the list. SERIOUSLY?! We just moved to this area and have family of 5 contact lens wearers. They lost 5 patients because the insurance person at the office was lazy.

I visit doctor Martin for an urgent matter, he was quick to make a diagnostic and get me out of there as soon as possible. He said that my issue was nothing and it will resolve itself, here I am 2 months after with the same problem. One common issue these days is that doctors no longer want to deal with patients.

Performed a procedure with inferior results because of poor measurement. Did not meet the medical standard. Would pick another physician

Failed to meet the medical standard of the American Academy of Opthomology in measuring for a lens.

My neurologist refers me to Dr. Martin for follow up with floaters in my eyes. Dr. Martin was fantastic in explaining everything, and my prescriptions are always right, and when I needed tailored glasses and contact solutions, he was able to think out of the box for non-standard solutions. But, my greatest challenge had been since my concussion. He has gone out of his way to work with me and my neurologist to get me the care I need, to suggest ways to get the information we need to help me get better, eventually, we hope. His senior office staff can be rude and rigid when looking for out-of-the-box solutions, but the regular office staff is caring and compassionate at all times.

Would select a different surgeon. I had poor results. Dr. Martin relies heavily on unskilled assistants to perform critical measurements. He also is reluctant to assume responsibility for unsatisfactoy performance..

Badly measured a permanent toric lens which he put in my eye. Relied too heavily on his assistant to perform critical functions. Did not meet prevailing medical standards. I would not return to this office.

Poor result in cateract surgery.

Have been seeing Dr. Martin for over 20 years. Very satisfied with results from cataract surgery. He takes time to explain everything and is very patient when answering all my questions. Staff is always professional and pleasant.
