Dr. Jose Bernardo Toro, MD

After an initial misdiagnosis that delayed care, and might have resulted in needless spinal surgery, Dr. Toro was consulted and correctly diagnosed an orthopedic problem. He immediately ordered MRIs of the knees and operated the next day. I don’t know the details, but discovered later that because of the initial delay my situation was dire, and only through Dr. Toro’s unhesitating and heroic efforts, my prognosis is excellent. Dr. Toro, an orthopedic trauma surgeon, is respected and revered within the hospital community, as well. One technician told me that when Dr. Toro orders certain tests they push everything aside to accommodate him, because he makes no frivolous demands, and every request involves a grave and consequential incident that requires the greatest speed and accuracy. Quite literately, the staff I spoke to are in awe of him. He is straight and to the point, and acts without hesitation. I can’t tell you how fortunate I am that he was in the right place at the… right time. I will never stop thanking him. This review will be re-posted wherever I am able.

I suffered a spiral tibia-fibula fracture this past summer in a horse riding accident. I’m so grateful to have wound up in Dr. Toro’s expert care. His surgical expertise, his clear and concise explanation of what to do and what to expect in the post-surgical recovery period, and his confident, straight-forward manner, gave me the motivation and optimism I needed in order to recover physically and psychologically from my accident and injury. Everything Dr. Toro said I should expect was true - including a full recovery, which I am well on my way to achieving. I will feel eternally fortunate to have been delivered into his competent hands.

Dr Toro absolutely saved my life. I came to hospital E/R after falling over bannister on my steps in home. I fractured pelvis in four locations. I met Dr Toro while I was there. He is compassionate,reassuring and professional who is confident that he will get you back to good health. I'm truly blessed & greatfull he was my surgeon who has given me back my life when I thought all was lost.

Dr. Toro was professional, knowledgeable and compassionate. I fell on ice and had a complete proximal hamstring rupture. He explained everything in easy to understand terms and gave me a real sense of relief in knowing what to expect the day of surgery and during recovery.

I was brought to ER after a fall down stairs. My knee, actually tibial plateau, was fractured in 2 places and required surgery to install plate, screws, etc. Luckily, Dr Toro was called in to do the surgery. I am now only 9 weeks in, and my knee feels great. He is very skilled and takes the time to really talk to you. He is so knowledgeable and clear in his explanation of the upcoming process. You are in good hands with this Dr!

If you have to if you Must have surgery, I would highly recommend Dr. Jose Toro I was fortunate enough to have him operate on me twice once for a broken shoulder bone and once for a hip replacement correction. Dr. Toro has made all the difference in my life. I went to him as a second opinion and I am so glad I did. He far exceeded my wife’s and my expectations. He is quick to the point and decisive about the course of treatment. He gives you plenty of time to ask questions and returns your calls, personally, when you have concerns or more questions. He takes special care to know all his patients and put them at ease. I went through an 8 hour surgery and had 35 plates and screws put in scapula and clavicle. It hasn’t even been a year and I am 100% back to where I was, prior to surgery, without pain medications. Today, the health care industry is focused on the bottom line and increasing a doctor’s caseload. Dr. Toro believes in individualized care and being there for each patient. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Toro clearly communicated every aspect of my treatment and provided the available options with clarity and patience. The results of the surgery he performed have impressed my therapy providers and I am confident that I will regain much of the mobility I lost in my accident due to the great skill of Dr. Toro.

I broke both my tib and fib. Dr. Toro performed the surgery at PBMC in Riverhead. He was fantastic. He has a very soothing bedside manner and spends as much time in follow up appointments as needed to answer every question asked. Although very professional, his sense of humor is noticeable during office visits.
