Dr. Karen Lynn Knudsen, MD

This woman should not be in medical practice. I tried numerous times to schedule an appointment with her regarding hormonal issues, to which I was told (on my fifth attempt of calling) that my hormonal issues (which they somehow magically diagnosed, pre-prescribed before they even SAW me OR did blood tests) aren't an issue, wouldn't be covered by insurance, etc. The receptionist somehow access to bloodwork done at a prior clinic and would not allow me to make an appointment without me persisting nonstop. Why should a RECEPTIONIST be allowing whether or not I can see a physician based of MY health issues that they haven't even discussed with me? Totally unprofessional. An absolute joke of a physician and clinic.

Dr Knudsen suspected I had thyroid cancer and immediately took action to scan, biopsy, arrange surgery and radioactive iodine treatment. She reacted fast and efficient- and I’m very grateful. Works exceptionally well with the surgeon and oncologist. Explained my treatment throughly and really cares for her patients.

I saw Dr. Knudsen not long after she first came to Williamsburg. At the first appointment, I first saw her assistant. The assistant gave me what I would call a sales pitch. She went at length over Dr. Knudsen's schooling and expertise as if she was selling me a timeshare. That was fine, but a bit strange. Dr. Knudsen told me that I would become a full-blown diabetic, but she offered no advice. She just said it as a matter of fact. Well since I saw her quite a few years ago, I have not become a full-blown diabetic. It was a bombastic and unhelpful comment not backed up with evidence or a plan. She made it sound like it just a tragedy of life that was inevitable. I had been a patient of record and tried making a follow-up appointment. Every time I called, I was given a different excuse as to why she could not see me. First I was told I had the wrong insurance, but they had mixed up which insurance I had (it was the same as when I saw her before). When that was corrected, they kept… making up excuses that sounded implausible. The office staff was very clique-ey, and it seemed like she wanted to curate what demographic of patient she sees, even though when she first came to Williamsburg it seemed like they were having to sell her credentials to me. The secretary I spoke to after I was told I could no longer be seen had access to my TPMG portal documents and made reference to communications I had with my personal doctor, which I found an unprofessional violation of privacy. I finally went out of the city to see a different endocrinologist who had far less prestigious training that Dr. Knudsen likes to have patients know about, but she very quickly narrowed in on Cushing's, something Dr. Knudsen never mentioned or tested for. And I was given a diagnosis after that point. Her office and presence is not an asset to the Williamsburg community. At first I was somewhat impressed, but their rudeness and lack of professionalism is below the standard of care, let alone what we expect in our community. The cageyness over why I could no longer be seen leads me to suspect Dr. Knudsen will only treat certain demographics, which is deeply unsettling. Or she doesn't trust her own expertise. I would not trust this office to keep personal information private. It seemed like they were often commenting on patients to each other in a way for their own amusement. Either she or someone in the office needs to set a different tone. And if a patient is no longer able to be seen due to whatever internal deliberations they make but do not disclose, they should stop snooping around documents in the TPMG system that aren't even relevant to a simple call about trying to make an appointment.

I went about 2 years ago, i was gaining weight... Did blood test... She told me I was pre diabetic, and to go buy the book called sugar buster, and she would not see me again tell I was a full blown diabetic, her schedule is full , never offerig me any kind of medicine to help ... I was appalled at her response, since I believe in preventive medicine ... This summer I paid to go to a private dr, in Richmond who looked at all my blood work again, he also confirmed I was borderline, but also that I was insulin resistant.. He is a very caring dr, unlike Dr, Knudsen...He put me on Metfotmin on the first visit... And now everythig is better... my numners are down, and lost already 10lbs... I came back here to write about Dr Knudsen, because I am still in shock, and my trust in Doctors has faded because of Dr Knudsen... she seemed to have had a good reputation, but my expirence has been she does not care, she is cold hearted, and incompetent... "dont come back to you are a full diabetic" … rings in my ear every time i think about a endrocrinologist... She has one patient after another, and charges a pretty hefty fee...She is a disgrace ..... to her profession...

Dr. Knudsen is a very nice and helpful doctor. She is very thorough and patient. Carol P.

Dr. Knudsen takes time to go over all results and weight the various options. I can't imagine her laughing at anyone. She is very professional. Several of my family and co-workers see her and are satisfied.

Rude. Lady in waiting room followed me to my car to tell me she overheard doctor and nurse making fun of me and laughing. She was angry and felt it was unprofessional and told me and my friend. Have followup appt and really dont want to go
