Dr. Marion Colman Bissell, MD

Terrible visit with Dr. Bissell after waiting an hour just to be seen. Her bedside manner is detached and uncaring. I left quite upset and did not return.

I cannot recommend Dr Bissell. After casually mentioning that my periods were becoming more irregular, she recommended an in-office biopsy to make sure everything looked okay. I agreed, but in retrospect, I should have asked more questions about this (and take responsibility for that miss on my part). Days later, I got a bill for over $3,000 dollars for this. I was taken aback by the cost and called to discuss. I had expected a few hundred dollars and suggested to the office that they do a better job of letting people know when a procedure will cost so much. Dr Bissell rudely told me that she and her office "don't have time" to discuss the financial implications of treatments, and in many cases, don't even know what it will cost a patient. Unfortunately, for some of us, the financial implications are incredibly important and require planning, budgeting, etc. I'd like a doctor who treats her patients with respect and is willing to discuss all aspects of their care.

I filed a VA Medical State Board Complaint.

Absolutely amazing OBGYN. She answered all of my questions and made me feel very comfortable. All of these other reviews are completely inaccurate and do not accurately represent Dr. Bissell in the slightest. She is a caring, knowledgeable doctor that is a great person and even better physician.

I was so scared to go to her because of the reviews - but she was incredibly kind, friendly, and sweet. She explained what would happen in the upcoming weeks of my pregnancy and was very patient with my questions.

Dr. Bissell is the most knowledgeable doctor I have ever had! From the moment I walked in, I knew she would take care of me. She has so much experience, and when I had my first pregnancy (which was a complicated one), she told me all my risks up front, gave me choices, and then guided me through the whole process. I've recommended a lot of friends and family to her and never heard a complaint. You can't go wrong!!!

Some of these reviews I have been seeing have been really whiney, in my opinion. Doctor Bissell is there to diagnose you, not be your best friend. I was afraid to go to her, after reading all the terrible reviews, but you know what? She was super respectful and pleasant. She answered all of my questions and addressed all of my concerns. She is a great doctor, and I'm glad I didn't listen to these reviewers. As a military spouse, new to the area, I was afraid of finding a new OBGYN, but Dr. Bissell (and her staff) made it easy for me. Make your own choice whether you like her as your doctor or not.. Don't go by what everyone else thinks.

Instead of trying to find out why I'm having problems knowing that I have PCOS, the first thing to come out of her mouth was how fat I am and that i needed weight loss surgery. I am not that big, She has no bedside manner, is very nasty, and couldn't be more uninterested in helping find out whats going on with my body. I will never return to her practice, which is a shame because her staff is very competent, easy going, and helpful. She should take some pointers from her staff. Just because you have a degree, doesn't give you the right to be rude.

I highly recommend Dr. Marion C. Bissell. She has been my physician for over 25 years. She has helped me through some rough medical procedures, to include a recent hysterectomy that was somewhat complicated. I trust her and believe her to be a very capable, professional, and thorough care giver.

Do yourself a favor...skip this practice. Dr Bissel and her Associates are cold, impersonal and indifferent to the needs or concerns of the patient. They are fine if you want to have a C-section and have additional sources of info about your pregnancy and birth. They seemed annoyed by questions. Initially they were fine but later treated my pregnancy like a paycheck by making all efforts to encourge a C-section. They later refused walk-in emergency follow up care and my primary had to intervene due to complications (stitches that extended into opposite side of labia causing painful ulcer). The practice nurses are the saving grace of this operation.
