Dr. Mark Drakos, MD

I chose Dr. Drakos for his elite reputation, but found his care disappointing. After surgery for my talus fracture, imaging still showed a significant intra-articular gap. Other specialists told me the reduction was poor and should have been more anatomic. When I asked why the gap remained, he said, “You can totally blame your body for that.” I found this cold and dismissive. I was not warned about the risk of arthritis, and no CT was obtained before I was cleared to return to sports, even though this type of fracture is well known to be difficult to assess on X-ray. I felt my concerns about the incomplete reduction and the long-term consequences of the incongruent joint surface were repeatedly dismissed rather than seriously addressed. Although known for treating elite athletes, as an ordinary patient I did not feel I received the same attention or accountability. I now live with chronic pain and limitations that have taken away many sports and activities I loved. Based on my… experience, I cannot recommend him.

Had a wonderful visit with Dr. Drakos. I was suffering from an ankle injury for several months. Not only was he able to accurately diagnose my condition, but he also laid out all my options. He was thorough and empathetic. Thanks to him, I'm back to playing sports and doing what I love.

Botched my Achilles repair, dismissed my failure to heal. Tried to cover it with a free “experimental procedure” and far too late agreed I needed a second surgery. I did NOT have him do it. The consequences of his actions were significant and my calf atrophied significantly due to his inaction. I would not recommend and gave him a 1 because it wouldn’t give zero as an option.

I am not only the LUCKIEST patient but the most GRATEFUL patient. Words can not express my gratitude for Dr. Drakos & P.A. Nicole. Dr. Drakos came highly recommended. Excellent bed side manor, understanding, and took the time to answer all my questions. I never felt rushed. Dr. Drakos saved my foot after a botched surgery from another surgeon. Thank you Dr. Drakos for not only recognizing I had a continued problem but suggesting I have another surgery. Thank you Sharon for your kindness and your patience for addressing all my concerns. Dr. Drakos, they always say when the ship is run smoothly it's due to the captain! Your team is on point as well as HSS. Being cared for in HSS was like being treated in the Waldorf Astoria. Dr. Drakos is highly skilled and knowledgable in arthroscopic foot and ankle surgery. My case was complex, with two separate issues involving 6 procedures to mitigate both an impingement issue causing me to not be able to run, as well as an acute issue with pernonal tendonitis that was causing constant burning / stinging on my right ankle area. The healing process has been a bit longer than I expected, I didn't realize it can take a whole year for ankle swelling to subside, but so far I've managed to start running again with no impingement (fingers crossed) and plan to work toward competitive racing again. The solution that Dr. Drakos came up with, was unique from the other surgeons opinions I had gathered, and was less invasive for one of my procedures, and I can say that his approach definitely resolved the peroneal tendon issue completely. Without question, I would highly recommend Dr. Drakos to anyone with ankle / foot ailments.

Dr. Drakos did my ACL reconstruction. He is extremely knowledgeable and understanding. I was back playing soccer in 9 months after surgery. I am 9 years post op and my knee is still in great condition. -Danielle Sheehan

I went in he looked at my foot and asked me to walk appointment took about 5 minutes before he decided I have "nerve pain". I switched to NYU a doctor was highly recommended. Thank God! He looked at my records and my foot and he said I have scar tissue, bulky muscle, and my previously corrected issue was back again. I had surgery not long after switching to his office.

Dr. Drakos mislead me about an operation and did not provide full information regarding his surgical plans. I took notes at every appointment and he did not fulfill the agreement and information he gave at our first appointment about surgery.

Dr. Drakos is an outstanding surgeon. He is friendly, caring, and very professional. He spent a great deal of time with me. I highly disagree with any negative comments posted! He answered all my questions and followed up on my progress. I highly recommend him and his staff!
