Getting to know his patients well, helping them to identify the cause of their pain and directing treatments to help them is what drives Dr. Matthew Barfield in his work. After earning his Bachelor of Science from Texas Christian University, he completed his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of North Texas Health Science Center, both in Forth Worth, TX. He finished an internship at the Plaza Medical Center of Forth Worth, Forth Worth, TX and a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX. He joined the Pain Consultants of Alabama , LLC D/B/A Comprehensive Pain and Rehabilitation and the Pain Consultants ASC, LLC in 2011. Dr. Barfield takes a multimodal approach to creating an individualized treatment plan. Medication is one part that can be utilized for post-procedure discomfort and other ways as well. Every aspect of Dr. Barfield’s care focuses on the patient. “The patient is the one suffering with pain and puts …trust in their physician to help identify the cause and best treatment while keeping their safety in mind at all times,” he said. In Dr. Barfield’s free time, he focuses on his faith and family. He enjoys teaching children’s religious education as well as leading a Boy Scout Troop. He also likes to go camping and hiking with his family.

Dr. Barfield in an excellent pain management doctor. He uses a variety of techniques to manage chronic pain. Because of his pain management strategies, I do not have to take pain medicine. I am proud to have him as my doctor.

I’ve never had such a caring physician. Dr. Barfield takes the time neccessary for me to understand my condition and the treatments available. The injections he gives me are minimally uncomfortable and he takes care to make it a pleasant experience.

My back has been hurting me for years. It got to the point I could stand up straight to cook a meal or even walk for any period of time. My husband kept telling me “go to the doctor”. I finally gave in and saw Dr Barfield at Conprehensive Pain and Rehabilitation. After getting X-rays, he explained that I had really bad spinal arthritis. After confirming this diagnosis, Dr. Barfield performed RFA (burning the nerves) to those painful joints. I have to say, I was not hopeful anything could be done for my back pain. However, I was able to shop for and cook Thanksgiving feast last week and don’t think I could be happier. Thank you Dr. Barfield!

I was referred to Dr. Barfield for a facet block. I was called for an appointment on the same day as my family doctor made the referral. Dr Barfield saw me for the injection 3 days later. Surprisingly, the injection didn't really hurt. Dr Barfield was very thorough in explaining the procedure to me and answered all of my and my wife's questions. I will certainly return to Dr Barfield if I need another spine injection.

Dr Barfield saved my life. During the work up process for my back pain, he found a tumor on my spinal cord. I have had surgery now and thank God will not be paralyzed. Thank you Dr Barfield
