Dr. Neil F Medoff

I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Medoff because I'm new to the area and looking for a PCP. I'm in my 20s and aside from autoimmune issues, I'm fairly healthy. Dr. Medoff began the consultation talking about how he doesn't fully understand how to use phones and "apps" and how crazy the concept is that he can use a cell phone to call his mother in his spare time. I figured, oh, a nice old guy who kind of rambles - not an issue. Then I began to explain my reason for the appointment, stated my medical issues, and asked if he felt he could serve as my PCP. Overall: Dr. Medoff is outdated in his medical thinking and extremely judgmental.. He never reviewed my chart or information I filled out as a new patient prior to seeing me and when asking questions, he would jump to conclusions without forming the correct question to get the answer he wanted. Example: He asked if I was still seeing a Physical Therapist for my recent knee surgery (an issue I stated I was not expecting him to… manage). I stated no, because insurance only pays for you to go so often and besides that, it is rather expensive. His conclusion: "So why aren't you continuing your exercises? I don't see patients who consider themselves victims. If you don't want to help yourself, I can't help you." Me: I'm still doing the exercises, just not seeing the therapist - which was the question you asked me. Don't jump to conclusions.Dr. Medoff, from my brief experience, does not think "outside the box," is not current with technology, and has no issue stating his thoughts (which to me, as a new patient, seemed extremely judgmental in manner and not conducive). Do people write reviews when they have great experiences? Not necessarily. But this experience was so bad I had to interrupt his rambling about how I'm to blame for my issues, state he is not the correct doctor for me, shake his hand, and leave. For me, I value a doctor who I can be open and honest with without the fear of judgments being brought upon me.If you want an old-school, perhaps traditional thinking doctor, who lacks a certain bedside manner (perhaps with just the younger crowd), then he's your guy.

The only reason i put 3 out of 4 stars for "spending enough time with me" is because all he does is talk about nonsense. He talks about medical advice that is irrelevant to your situation. Never seems to actually try and help you. Wants you to keep coming back so he can collect more and more money for you.

Dr. Medoff "saw me" in Reston Hospital after a surgery completely unrelated to internal medicine. He was very odd and did not even know what surgery I had, nor any details of my medical history (he had clearly not even read my chart). I had never seen him before and asked him not to return the second time he came into my room. However, he billed my insurance for nearly $1000 after doing absolutely nothing and frankly creeping me out. When I spoke to the billing office they informed me that some doctors walk around the hospital and "drop in" to see patients that are not their own. If they write ANYTHING at all in the chart, they are legally allowed to bill the patient. This is despicable behavior that is frowned upon in the medical community and is money that I cannot be reimbursed for. Dr. Medoff's poor ethics give a bad name to the medical community.
