Dr. Pauline Townsend Merrill, MD

She is cordial and obviously competent. I always feel like I am in good hands.

Dr. Merrill is superb, kin, very smart and expert.

Dr Merrill was great during my entire course of treatment with her. She always explained things clearly and was very approachable with questions. The office was a little slow sometimes, but having been to many retina specialists, that’s the nature of the business.

I have been to the Illinois Retina Associates to see Dr. Merrill, and I have to say that each time has been more frustrating than the previous visit. Regardless of appointment time, there is a complete disregard for the patient’s time or schedule. Wait times have been up to two hours to see the dr. There is no explanation as to why there is a delay in schedule or what is happening. There are zero apologies, and in fact, both the staff and Dr. seem unphased. They need to do a better job or scheduling and managing expectations. It is not okay to book all your appointments at the same time and then make patients wait two hours to see you. In addition, after having a laser procedure on my retina, I asked that someone help me get to a cab safely and no one did help me. Very disappointing service overall.

No follow up care, dismissive,

I like Dr. Merrill very much; however I believe I have seen her six times and at least five of those times I have been kept waiting beyond a reasonable time. I find this unacceptable - always different excuses given. Most recently I knew I was not getting the straight story - first computer issues were cited; then explanation that Dr. Merrill had an emergency surgery; then Dr. Merrill tells me herself it was computer issues. To be the first appointment of the day whenever I see her and to always be kept waiting for a minimum of 45 minutes is getting old.....wish I didn't think she was such a great physician or I would definitely see someone else. Bottom line - be prepared to wait!
