Dr. Phillip Jay Kanter, MD

Stay Away !! Kanter did a needless surgery on my knee (the MRI was wrong). Although asking him countless quetions about the procedure. post-op, etc. NEVER ONCE did he mention the possibiity of a pulmonary embolism (PE). I followed his post-op instructions to the letter but about one week later I had my first PE which was utterly horriffic. I had another about 10 years afterwards and now am on a blood thinner for the rest of my life. Being on a blood thinner can result in problems when a major (or even minor) surgery needs to be done. STAY AWAY from this person. Seek care elsewhere.

I have had 2 knee surgeries from the VA and one from doctor Kanter. His surgery was the only one of the 3 that I felt relief from. Doctor cancer was extremely professional and very knowledgeable and I was very impressed with his entire operation. I am 53 years old and a disabled veteran.

I was extremely disappointed. It is like he speed reads his diagnoses or predetermines why he is going to diagnose a person with before even seeing the patient.

I can now run again for the first time in years! Thanks to Dr. Kanter my joints feel pain free again. I highly recommend his services to everyone.

Dr. Kanter is the best orthopedic surgeon ever! He is an amazing doctor and saved my knee. I will forever be thankful!

I was injured at work and had to retain an attorney to keep my job. The company attorney and my private attorney agreed upon Dr. Kantar as an independent medical examiner . I have seen Dr. Kantar for required visits ( every 3 months ). Dr. Kantar has been very professional and concerned with my needs in order to recover and return to work in the best condition that I can. He has carefully reviewed the reports from each Doctor regarding my care. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Kantar . He is the main reason that I have not been forced to return to work in a condition that would only cause further injury.

I saw Dr. Kantor in 1997-98 for an ACL replacement. My surgery went 4.5 hours longer than I was told, because Dr. Kantor dropped a screw and couldn't locate it after they stitched my leg back together. They didn't bring in an xray machine, instead Dr Kantor made three long incisions all over my thigh looking for the screw they couldn't find. I was lied to about why the surgery took so long. I was told it was nothing when I kept complaining and didn't understand why my thigh hurt when they had been suposedly working on my knee. I know mistakes happen, I make them. We are all human. It's what happens AFTER a mistake that makes you a good person or a bad person. These three extra 3 inch long incisions all over my thigh were STAPPLED up. Not a cosmetic stitch. Staples! I went to Dr. Kantor and told him, "These are so ugly on my leg, can you please give me a cosmetic stitch?" He said flat out, "No." I said, "I don't want to have to try and sue you...can't you help me?" He… laughed at me and said, "Try and sue me. Since you can walk, it won't be enough money for any laywer. No one will take your case." He was right, I called 9 laywers and worked hard to find someone to help me. But no one (this is LA, land of rich people) no one would take my case because there wasn't enough money in it for them. I believe in Karma. And I know Dr. Kantor has done this to others. One day he will face something in his future. It's been 20 years and every time someone comments on what happened, I say, "Share bite" and they believe me! That's how horrible it looks.So there - save yourself any possible headache, get a responsible doctor who does good work. I went with Dr. Kantor becasue out of all the docs I interviewed for the surgery, he had the best bedside manner. Looking back, I'd pick the quiet guy who thinks he's a genius - the doctor who loves what he does and stands behind all their work and their reputation.

Dr. Kanter is absolutely an amzing doctor. He is the best of the best!!! Everyon eshould be so lucky to have a doctor such as Dr. Kanter

Dr.Kanter testifies on the behalf of insurance companies in court. In my experience with him, he did not care to find out what was really wrong with me. I was misdiagnosed. He provided no treatment. My lawyer (Barry S. Parker) referred him. In the end I had to fire my lawyer for multiple misconducts. It really makes me wonder if they are receiving money under the table by the insurance companies.
