Dr. Shirley Mary Rajan, MD

Our appointment was scheduled for 9:00 AM. We arrived at 8:55 and proceeded to wait 25 minutes before asking if the doctor would be ready shortly. The office staff proceed to inform us that the doctor has not yet arrived and they were unable to find her. They repeatedly called her to which she did not respond. We gave her the benefit of the doubt and waited until 10:00. Our first though was "is she ok?" However, the staff proceeded to tell us that this is not out of character and she indeed stands patients up, that we were not the first. Needless to say, this is a mental health professional! The only positive thing I can say is the office staff is absolutely lovely. They apologized profusely and did everything they possibly could do to contact her. We drove 1 1/2 hours round trip, waited another hour for her to show up only to walk out frustrated. Never again!! I wish zero stars were an option, because 1 star is too generous.

I have seen Dr. Rajan for my mental illness that led me to be sent home from my university. She is the first and the most wonderful psychiatrist I have seen. She helped me gain insight into my issues, and came up with a plan to make it easier for me to manage my conditions. She was a light in my life during a very difficult time. I am very sorry for writing a negative review of this caring, professional, and dedicated psychiatrist on this website in 2018. At that time, I was not in a healthy state of mind. I wasn't aware at all the way my words, actions, and attitudes can affect other people, including this psychiatrist of mine who did everything she could to help me heal. Fortunately, I was able to reflect on my experiences over time and realized that she took a lot of responsibility for my health and wanted me to have the safest and smoothest transition possible back to normal life. One example of the Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) I was mentioning earlier is going back to the… academically rigorous environment in the university I previously had to withdraw from. Thus, I chose to convey my changed opinion of her in this review. Hopefully my action can be helpful in clearing up any misconceptions about the quality of her work as a highly trained child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist in a life-changing field that is growing in necessity.

I have seen Dr. Rajan for my mental illness that led me to be sent home from my university. She is the first and the most horrible psychiatrist I have seen. She not only lies about taking insurance but also charged me a huge sum of money without seeing me for the full allotted time of 1/2 an hour per session. In fact, she only sees me for 15 minutes for each appointment. Her irresponsibility causes her to misdiagnose me and prescribe me medications that worsened my conditions. Then when I merely discussed with her about the side effects of my medication and the possibility of changing my medication, she tried every means to stop me from going back to the university that I was meant to go back to in the first place. One of the most cruel methods she used is to write a very negative, distorted, and dishonest report to my university to prevent me from going back there and to persuade me to always go to her office even though my parents and those around me could tell I am getting more and… more despondent, more and more anxious and depressed. She pulls me deeper and deeper into the darkest pit of my life. Luckily due to my efforts and the help of other honest and well-trained mental health professional I am able to get back into my university again and study psychology. When I become a mental health professional in the future, never again I am going to be a psychiatrist like her.
