Dr. Steve B. Behrens, MD

Do NOT see Dr. Behrens. You will be sorely disappointed as he is only focused on whether or not you need an expensive surgery. He could care less about helping reduce pain and address what's causing pain. Do not be fooled by his YouTube clip. He is not the warm compassionate doctor he pretends to be in that video. Shocked by some of his outright lies and even had his office manager lie to me. What a disgusting human being to use Healthcare just to line his pockets with cash without any concern about his patients. Go to NYU or Mt Sinai as HSS is all about yreating celebrities and professional athletes

I recently had foot fusion surgery with Dr. Steve Behrens at HSS. I had been a patient of Dr Behrens for several years leading up to my June 2025 surgery. Dr Behrens always supported my decisions with my treatment and timing that worked best for me in scheduling my surgery. I felt at ease and in good hands throughout the process. From the beginning of my treatment through post op care Dr. Behrens, his outstanding PA Meagan Murtagh, the entire staff and everyone who treated me both before and during surgery at HSS were professional, attentive and provided excellent care. Dr Behrens saw me after I had gone to my local orthopedic group's urgent care, where the doctor said I needed surgery for my malleolar and fibula fractures. I immediately made an appointment to see Dr. Behrens at HSS, where he is listed as the orthopod for ankle injuries. He and his excellent PA Meaghan Murtagh got more complete X-rays and said the bones were well-positioned to heal if I wore a boot for 7 weeks and used crutches. After using the boot, I went to PT for three months and am now 100% ready for an active life. The best surgeon is one who does not operate unless necessary, and in my local Connecticut suburb, they wanted to operate on my double malleolar and fibula fracture. I trust Dr. Behrens, Meaghan Murtagh, PA-C, and HSS explicitly to do the right thing and do it right the first time. I had back surgery/laminectomy at HSS in 2012, and it was very successful.

Dr. Behrens is a skilled and excellent physician. He and his PA Meagan provided quality care after I sustained an ankle fracture. The office staff were efficient and extremely helpful. I had a trip planned to travel out of the country and needed documentation from the office saying I was unable to travel to be eligible for a full refund for the hotel and airfare. The office staff sent the letter to me the day after my office visit. That was so helpful. My ankle healed beautifully! I highly recommend this physician and would most definitely use Dr. Behrens and his team if I ever have any orthopedic issues with my ankle or feet. I would also recommend this doctor and his team to friends and relatives. Thank you, thank you and thank You!!!

I had serious ankle injury with multiple fractures overseas and had my initial surgery there. I traveled home to NY with an external fixation. Dr. Behrens took over my case with complete confidence and dedication. I needed a second surgery to adjust the external fixation which was damaged in flight. His patience and reassurance was so comforting. After an 11 day hospital stay I had my final surgery, where Dr. Behrens, with unparalleled expertise, put the puzzle pieces together with an internal fixation. During my recovery period, both Dr. Behrens and his PA Meagan were always available for any questions and concerns. I am now 4 months post surgery and on walking on my two feet completely independently, all thanks to Dr Behrens and his amazing team.

I was referred to HSS and Dr Behrens in March 2024, after breaking my ankle while on vacation. Dr Behrens and his team were a pleasure from day 1. They patiently answered all of my questions (and there were many) in a calm and methodical manner and manned my expectations well. When needing additional information for insurance, physical therapy etc, his team was always available and returned my messages in a tamely fashion. Their recommendations were practical and helpful, ultimately resulting in a full recovery. If you are in need of an ankle specialist, I would 100% recommend reaching out to him and his team!

Dr Behrens is not only a kind, caring, compassionate doctor but a fabulous Orthopedic surgeon. I came in through emergency and ask for an HSS doctor. They told me I broke my hip and femur. When I met Dr. Behrens he was kind explained the operation and the next morning I was operated on. I have this thing where I have to see the doctor in the operating room before I go under general anesthesia I asked for Dr. Behrens to be there and he was there held my hand went onto I went under If you call his office, you get a reply that day. I have met Dr. Steve Behrens for 3 to 4 visits in his office He gives you time explains everything and you don’t feel rushed. Not only does he hear you he listens to you and explains everything in detail. He’s warm, friendly, caring, and a darn good doctor I recommend (if God forbid you need a foot , ankle leg hip trauma ) request Dr Steven Behrens Thank you Dr.Behrens for putting me back together like new. Dr. Behrens is an excellent and compassionate provider. I had an ankle fracture and through his diligent care, I was able to avoid surgery. He was attentive and took his time to show me x-ray images by way of explanation and provided thorough answers to all of my questions. I have full confidence in his clinical expertise and would highly recommend him to anyone seeking a top-level orthopedist who is truly interested in his patients.
