Dr. Jason Merrill Gilbert, MD

Dr Gilbert is caring, knowledgeable, and professional. Not only does Dr. Gilbert possess impeccable surgical skills, he puts the patient’s needs first, and that makes all the difference. He did cataract surgery on both of my eyes. He explained the procedure thoroughly beforehand and answered my questions precisely with little fanfare. He made sure to choose the appropriate type of intraocular lenses that would create most benefit to my vision. The surgery went flawlessly, and now my vision is excellent. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone seeking top-quality eye care.

Went as a new client and there was no optical shop at all and no optometrist!! It’s only the owner there. Do not try to get glasses or contact lenses!!!

After reading some of these reviews, I was a little nervous to book an appointment with Dr. Gilbert. However, he turned out to be not only a nice man, but a caring, competent physician that took his time explaining everything to me, did my cataract surgery in both eyes, and now my vision is excellent. Thank you Dr. Gilbert. I would highly recommend you to my family and friends.

Dr. Gilbert just did both eyes for cataracts for me and I am so pleased. My vision has improved 1,000 percent and I owe it to a great doctor. He is kind, compassionate, caring and gentle. He explains everything beforehand in detail and puts your mind at ease. He even called me at home the next day to check on me. I would highly recommend him to my friends and family.

Horrible bedside manner. He's not my usual eye doctor, but I came in because I had pain and vision problems, and needed to see a specialist. He started the exam and when I was unable to move my eyes in all of the ways he wanted, he started berating me in a way that can only be described as how a middle school football coach yells at his players. He then exclaimed, "I don't have time for this" and left the room. I overheard him tell the nurse to anesthetize me. When she let him know that I hadn't signed the consent form, he said "I don't care, do it anyway." (She didn't. Unlike him, she was kind, helpful, and professional.) I have other problems with my eyes, so I am no stranger to eye exams, and I can confidently say that this was the worst experience I have ever had with a medical professional. I don't expect everyone to always be perfectly kind and friendly, but when you're in pain and need help with a medical problem, you should expect some modicum of support or even a hint of… professionalism. Dr. Gilbert is not the sort of man I would want to interact with on my best days, and is certainly not the sort of man I would want to interact with when I am sick and in pain. No worries, though. I never plan to interact with him again.

Dr. Gilbert has given wrong prescriptions to my parents- actually gave them prescriptions they had from 2 years prior- if it were not for the honest person they go to for their glasses they would have paid for glasses that were #1 Useless to them and #2 the wrong prescription. The exact same thing happened to my girlfriends father who also use to go to him. This wasn't a one time mistake. He seems to do this so you have to come back and get and pay for a corrected set of glasses... this adds up to well over 600 -700 for the elderly to have to pay for. As far as my visits - he absolutely refused to write me my contact prescription because I would not get glasses. You see he OWNS the lens shop next to his office. He usually refuses to hand you your prescription, but will hand deliver it to the gentleman in the lens shop. When I told him I was going to report him to the board, he did write me a prescription for contacts that were useless to me, they were not my correct lenses, he… wrote them for .25 for both eyes even though my correct lens prescriptions were much higher more like 1.25 and up. He also has his interns do your exam and all the visit testing. He comes in for two minutes and says see you next year! He is an arrogant doctor who believes he is the ONLY doctor in town. RUN RUN RUN FAR FAR AWAY!

As a healthcare professional myself, I was appalled by Dr Gilbert's overall brusque and impatient manner. I found him lacking in empathy or caring and ultimately left before my exam was completed. This is not a physician I want caring for me!

I have been a patient of Dr. Gilbert since 2006. I have been treated for a chronic eye condition as well as an eye infection and have had exams for eyeglasses. The office is modern and spacious. The staff is always pleasant, efficient and I feel that they recognize me when I come in. I have complete confidence in Dr. Gilbert. His clinicl expertise is evident and I have been satisfied with the resolution of any issues that I have had. I was especially impressed with a minor surgical procedure I had performed in the office. He demonstrated superb surgical skills and I was completely at ease. I highly recommend Dr. Gilbert to family and friends.

Don't bother subjecting yourself to this unprofessional jerk. He comes off very condescending and is socially awkward. His skills as an eye doctor lacks finesse and in his old age seems detached from sensitively handling your eyes. Be forewarned - or prepare to be patronized.
