Dr. Katherine Isabel Ochsner, MD

I went to see her for a simple pressure check. Nothing was wrong with my eyes when I went in, other than suspected high pressure. Her "technician" used a tono pen to check my occular pressures. I saw her wiping the plastic covers of the pen with alcohol before using it on my eyes. When Dr. Ochsner came in to examine my eyes, she was surprised to see that I had corneal abrasions on BOTH corneas. She described them as 'perfectly round'. She put bandage contact lenses on both of my eyes and sent me home. I experienced a horribly painful weekend at home. I could not tolerate any light whatsoever and spent 2 days in a blacked out room with my eyes closed. Dr. Ochsner did not call me to ask how I was doing, which surprised me. When I went back to have the contact lenses removed, I asked Dr. Ochsner what she thought had really happened to cause my corneal abrasions. I was really disappointed that she would not admit that her technician had made a mistake. Instead, she said that perhaps I had… weak or "compromised" corneas and that if the abrasions had been caused by the Tono pen, they would have been perfectly round, and that was not what she had seen. ( But it WAS what she described!) I suggested that if my corneas were in that bad of a condition, perhaps I should be referred to a corneal specialist. She didn't think that was necessary. I will never allow a technician to check my occular pressure again and I no longer trust Dr. Ochsner to be truthful with me. I was told by one of her former employees that the 'technician' who used the Tono pen on me admitted to giving me corneal abrasions, and that when I went in to have the contact lenses removed, she hid so I wouldn't see her!

I waited for one hour and 35 minutes for a pressure check in this office today. I appreciate her knowledge and care but if need to see again I would only be her first appointment of the day.

Dr. Ochsner is a caring and responsible professional. She knows her field extremely well, and is able to answer and elaborate upon any question you may have. I have several eye conditions, all of great concern, but I have learned since I have been going to her that she will be able to address them. As a result, this gives me greater peace of mind, as anyone with an eye condition like glaucoma will know. I will note that sometimes there has been an extended wait to see her, which can be frustrating. But as a patient who has had to see their doctor in an emergency, I and the others waiting can understand that. The doctor and her staff try to make everyone comfortable in the interim. I would also note that Dr. Oschner is cognizant of the difficulties we face getting medications, and tried to help each individual find what they need. And almost without exception, her staff is pleasant, educated, and helpful to all of us. I recommend Dr. Oschner without reservation.

Dr O,is not only excellent in her chosen profession, she is caring, and wise beyond her years. If one is in her care he or she can be comfortable knowing they will have the BEST Glacoma and eye care in 50 States. I am a patient and am impressed with her knowledge and care.

Awesome Doctor. Very intelligent, she really cares for her patients. She explains the options of your care and surgeries if you need one. A+ Doctor.
