Dr. Richard Ernest Damiano, MD

Dr. Damiano didn’t give me enough anesthesia during my last surgery, so I was awake and could hear him talking. He cursed that blood was everywhere because he had cut a vein. In recovery he didn’t tell me what he had inadvertently done. He only said that most patients can see the next day but that it would take me a little longer. I had NO vision in that eye for 6 months. Since then,the vision in that eye has been extremely limited and the iris is oval shaped. I, later, went to another surgeon who is a friend of Dr. Damiano. He told me that “in no way” would he fix “the mess” that another surgeon has made. An asst. of Dr. Damiano told me that Dr. Damiano is “surgery happy”. I should have listened to her! Anyone can make a mistake, but not to acknowledge it is UNFORGIVABLE!! Beware of COCKY Dr. Damiano! See a different eye surgeon instead of Dr. Damiano!

Dr Damiano's approach to my vision was unlike any doctor I've seen in the past. In one visit, he was able to get me out of reading glasses that I had been wearing for 6 years.

I had 3 pre-operative visits with Dr. Damiano and staff to develop a plan for surgery and post op care. On the day of surgery, I reiterated the care plan with 4 people. The plan was not followed by the Dr. Damiano and I had complications. Afterwards he insisted everything was normal, did not take responsiblity for the error and went so far as to call my symptoms psychosomatic. Not only am I left with worse vision, I was insulted and dismissed.

Richard Damiano is known among opthamologists for attempting risky, unapproved and unproven surgery on patients and then shirking responsibility when it goes awry. Your eyesight is too important to take a gamble like this. Look for at least one other doctor before deciding.He is detached and distracted when performing surgery. He talks endlessly to his staff about inanities and trivia while he should be paying full attention to your organs of sight.
