Dr. Steven James Smith, MD

I had a neck lift , upper and lower eyes done Nov 2020. My face had not been right since. It is a struggle every day not to be depressed! Wish I had asked more question before the procedure. Put to much trust in Dr. Smith. My neck and right side of my face has so much pressure and tightness. My face feels like there is a mask on it. My eyes and neck feel tight. So much pressure! There is nerve damage all over my face! Dr Smith blames my body for not healing right. He take no blame and offers no advice on how to fix the issue. My lips even have a tightness, burning feeling and feel swollen. I regret every day for doing this! I never would have thought having a neck lift and eyes done would cause so much pain and pressure!

I felt beautiful the morning of surgery. My skin glowed. I felt wonderful. Dr. Smith has taken this all away from me. I have been bed ridden going on two years. I now have to wear a wig to feel my head. Then level of trauma that was done to me was not coincidental or by accident. When I went to Dr. Smith I told him I wanted to look pretty and that I had been dating this guy and we broke up and the next time I saw him I wanted to look pretty. Worse mistake of my life. He is either jaded, a sociopath or purely mean spirited. He destroyed me. Everything on my face is different. I’m not so sure that due to the level of bruising around my eyes that a lobotomy was not performed. I constantly have an ice pack on my head, and packaging tape. I have been to all the best doctors in American to get answers. First and foremost no matter how bad the results no doctor wants to get involved and it is nearly impossible to have a law suit. The statue is one year and doctors want do anything corrective… for at least one year. I had to go to Dallas Texas and have a revision rhinoplasty that cost 25,000. I had a wonderful job and traveled that has all come to an end now due to the level of trauma done to me. My day consist of lying in bed and watching tv. Luckily I have a boyfriend who takes care of me. My relationship with my daughter has suffered because she wants her fun mother back. I’m crying as I write this because never in a million would I have thought this. My hair is no longer lays on my scalp. It used to be long but stands straight up. When I asked Dr. Smith for my op report he had the audacity to send me a letter saying I had a deformed forehead, a deformed nose and deformed lips. None of which was true. What he did do was deform my face. When I called him crying and asked what I could do for the pain 3 months later he said nothing would help with the pain. When I talked to his office secretary who had had a browlift she said she too kept wondering when her head would quit feeling like a bowling ball. She also rattled off a list of things that would not help. Her exact words to me were this is minute by minute. And let me tell you this has been minute by minute. I used to have perfect vital signs and could run like an eighth grader. I now struggle to climb stairs, have tried 20 different medicines. None of which helps. I went four months after surgery with no sleep due to the level of discomfort. The nurses at Vanderbilt couldn’t get me to sleep. My body didn’t respond to anything. During the EEG they had to come and readjust the monitor because they said I wasn’t blinking. I kept telling the doctors I felt vacuum packed. My dentist said my bite had changed and that my face looked burned. This was after 1.5 years. There is no moisture in my face. My pores look fused together. For over a year and a half I layed in a pool of sweat at night. I could feel the sweat around my neck and back of my legs. I have to sleep in a swim cap. What has happened to me is beyond ridiculous. There is no way this was plastic surgery. I visited a friend who is a GYN and when she asked who did my surgery she rolled her eyes and said oh lord. She told me she had heard horror stories about him. One of which one patient had to have a blood transfusion and another had a bad infection. What Dr. Smith did to me is criminal. He is being investigated by the medical board. I met a lady in his parking lot that had a stoma after her percedure and had to have multiple lazer treatments. After my surgery I should have been taken to intensive care. I honestly wish Dr. Smith would have let me die. Life is not fun anymore, I am not one to lay in bed. Other doctors want to help but their concern is they will make things worse. I did this plastic surgery on a whim. My cat of 17 years had died and I was so sad. I did nothing wrong plenty of women have plastic surgery. It is doctor Smith who was wrong. He played on my weakness. When I called and spoke to his wife I told her I had heard she had never had plastic surgery I asked her why and she said she didn’t need plastic surgery. I was beautiful, people used to say I glowed. I am writing this with my swim cap on, an ice pack on my head and with my hand supporting the weight of my head. My head truly does feel like a bowling ball. What I would tell people now is don’t sacrifice your looks for all the wonderful things to enjoy in the world. Eating your favorite meal means nothing if your health is gone or being at the beach. When your health is gone you would do anything to have it back. The week before surgery I stopped by Walmart, it was raining. There was a girl in front of me with a pink umbrella we were probably 15 feet apart. Lightening came down between us. I know now this was God trying to warn me something very evil was getting ready to happen to me! I have asked for his forgiveness a million times. He made me perfect and I was too stupid to know it! For the first year I talked very little and could barely look at the television. When I looked in the mirror my eyes were dead before my eyes sparked. All I can say is think long and hard before you do any surgery with this man. I feel certain his staff writes some of his reviews. I now have a cadaver in my nose and the doctor who redid my nose said I had a ton of scare tissue from Dr. Smith. My nose looked burned inside and there was hardly any tissue. I showed him pictures of Dr. Smith’s work and he said Bangladeshi! One thing I do know is all the doctors at plastic surgery conferences will be looking at him with disgust after seeing what he did to me. Do your research! Breast augmentation is the number one reason for suicide after plastic surgery. I hope this review helps I just wish so badly I had researched him more. One last thing... his secretary said that he would be retiring soon so if he screws you up he knows it won’t hurt his practice he’s made his money.

Horrible doctor! Ruined my life. Had to spend 20,000 on a revision rhinoplasty last month. butchered my nose. Other doctor's described his work as a train wreck. When I called to ask questions and express my concerns all of a sudden I was referred to get psychiatrist help although never had taken medicine or had any psychiatric issues before his surgery. His staff are all friendly before you pay your money for the procedure, afterwards when you call in they are rude and condescending. When I asked why my nose was crocked his staff said, 'THE NOSE HAS MEMORY...really, forgot to leave that small detail out of the consultation. I went from having a straight beautiful nose to no nose. If you must insist on using him ask for all your medical evaluations upfront and ask to see a prep report of what your procedure will look like. After you read the pre-op I'm pretty sure you will choose differently. This doctor plays down everything. Just a week or two of bruising which lasted a year and … still have darkness which I never had is still around my eyes. Oh and a brow lift he tells you is really a forehead lift....unbelievably painful that will rock your world. Enjoy your face and body you have. Your health and being comfortable in life is everything. If you don;t have your health you don't have anything. I have spent this past year going to doctor after doctor getting answers as to what this so called doctor did to me. I was beautiful with a beautiful face was feeling like all women in their middle 50's. Plastic surgery is not the answer. I miss being my daughter's mom more than anything. He has for now taken my life away from me. Do not make the same mistake I made. Also I'd like to say when I call this man concerned and in a panic state he handled it by hanging up on me three separate times. He's so unprofessional. I left looking like I had been dropped off a ten story building with not light bruising but black swollen eyes, no one from his staff called to check on me at any point. I looked like I should have been taken to the intensive care unit. Lastly I came to find out his wife has had no plastic surgeries. My face was prettier than her. When I asked her why she hadn't had a brow lift she replied, I don't need a brow lift. Well guess what.. I didn't need plastic surgery either of any kind. Now I am left in constant pain. Do not make the same mistake I made and ruin your life. I write this review because it's so sad to be left in this state. Once you sign those papers he is allowed to do anything he wants to you. It is virtually impossible to get doctors to stand up against other doctors in Tennessee, Think twice but definitely not this doctor.

I have had many procedures done with Dr.Smith and have always been so pleased. His staff is absolutely amazing and so very friendly. I feel completely safe with him and his staff. Won’t go anywhere else.

The entire staff from Dr Smith to all of the staff are super nice and knowledgeable. They do great work!!! I would recommend them to everyone!
