What is a Rheumatologist and How Can They Help You?

A rheumatologist diagnoses and treats arthritis and autoimmune rheumatic diseases affecting joints, connective tissues, and immune function. These specialists manage inflammatory conditions causing musculoskeletal pain and stiffness.

Rheumatologists complete medical school, a three-year internal medicine residency, and a two- to three-year rheumatology fellowship focusing on autoimmune pathology, inflammatory arthritis, and complex rheumatic syndromes.

A Rheumatologist's clinical work includes:

  • Concentrates on articular structures, connective tissues, autoimmune processes, and inflammatory pathways
  • Conducts comprehensive examinations, orders specialized serological testing and imaging, diagnoses rheumatic pathology, creates integrated treatment approaches
  • Manages inflammatory arthritis, systemic lupus, degenerative joint disease, crystal arthropathy, spondyloarthritis, and vasculitic syndromes
  • Uses disease-modifying agents, biologic therapies, immunosuppressive medications, articular injections, and lifestyle strategies
  • Alternative designations: autoimmune disease specialist, arthritis physician, MD, DO

Ensuring Data Transparency and Trust: A Guide to Vitals Doctor Listings and Reviews

Our provider data is gathered directly from physicians and publicly available databases. Providers who verify their profiles gain the ability to update information, offering additional details about their specialties, education, treated conditions, performed procedures, and accepted insurances.

Reviews on Vitals are submitted by users only. Recognizing the valuable insights these reviews offer into a doctor's reputation, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Importantly, providers cannot delete or alter reviews independently. Reviews can only be deleted or changed following an internal assessment by our customer service team.
