Critical Care Physicians Nearby

What is a Critical Care Physician and How Can They Help You?

A critical care specialist manages severely ill patients experiencing life-threatening conditions in intensive care settings. These physicians coordinate complex care for patients requiring advanced monitoring and organ support systems.

After medical school and a primary residency (anesthesiology, internal medicine, or surgery), intensivists complete a one- to two-year critical care fellowship focusing on mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic management, and multi-system support.

A Critical Care Doctor's responsibilities encompass:

  • Specializes in life-threatening conditions with multi-system involvement
  • Leads ICU teams, operates life support technology, analyzes complex clinical data, makes urgent therapeutic decisions
  • Manages respiratory compromise, distributive shock, multiple organ dysfunction, severe trauma, and postoperative critical illness
  • Provides mechanical ventilation, intensive monitoring, advanced life support, and comprehensive pharmacologic management
  • Also called: ICU specialist, critical care physician, MD, DO

Ensuring Data Transparency and Trust: A Guide to Vitals Doctor Listings and Reviews

Our provider data is gathered directly from physicians and publicly available databases. Providers who verify their profiles gain the ability to update information, offering additional details about their specialties, education, treated conditions, performed procedures, and accepted insurances.

Reviews on Vitals are submitted by users only. Recognizing the valuable insights these reviews offer into a doctor's reputation, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Importantly, providers cannot delete or alter reviews independently. Reviews can only be deleted or changed following an internal assessment by our customer service team.
